Mid-day Rant fueled by Jazz Kool-Aid

This season we will have an all-world point guard leading a team with a great mix of role players. It's time for Millsap to earn his money - and I know for a fact he will.

A world class point guard and some role players now that's a recipe for a championship. I could name plenty of NBA champions with that mix. First there's um, er well um.....

OP sounds like he's trying to convince himself more than anybody else.

"Loud, insufferable faction of Jazz fans" seems to be code for "Those trying to shove reality down my throat when I'm perfectly content in my own delusion".

First off, for the insufferable, loud faction of Jazz fans who wanted a big instead of Hayward - Look at Patrick O'Bryant. He was a big guy plenty of Jazz fans wanted when he was in the draft. Long center with shot-blocking ability who had words like "raw" and "upside" next to his name on all the predraft reports. I could run off a list of 50 over the past several years of big men in the same boat.

How many American White successful small forwards can you name?

Racism.

How could conjecture about Hayward's performance in the NBA be considered "reality"??? While I am perfectly content in my own delusion, I recognize how irrational it is to declare the Jazz doomed because of a draft pick who hasn't played in the NBA yet.

And friendsinmyhead, no other team has a PG like Deron. We also have a couple players who are better than role players, but they don't have the superstar mentality. Millsap, AK, and CJ all have potential to be much better than the normal "role player" this season - and all 3 have proven as much over the past couple years.

Chi, but you will agree that the chances that Heywad turns into a complete stiff are higher than him turning into a serviceable role player...

1. The point of this thread is about the Jazz's outlook for this upcoming season and beyond.

2. If I thought Hayward had a bigger chance of being a bust than a serviceable role player, I wouldn't have included him in my outlook. He's got an incredibly deceptive quick first step, can handle the ball, and has a point guards feel for the game - at 6'8 that usually translates to something other than a stiff.

Let's get it straight. I didn't declare the Jazz doomed because of the pick of Hawyard. I declared the Jazz doomed about 2 years ago when my sudden awareness of Kevin O'Connor's incompetence and stubborn refusal to take even marginal risks made it clear to me what the future held in store for the team. Hawyard is just a small knot in a string of ridiculously incompetent, cynical, and risk-averse decision making by the FO.
