Jazz select Grayson Allen at 21

So, you thought we were definitely getting a starter at 21?

No, not necessarily. I think there were definitely some other prospects that warranted consideration. Okobo being one of them. As I explained, Okobo could’ve easily been a better prospect and filled a need. I could see Okobo starting soon over Rubio as well.

When people are unable to refute valid concerns I’ve found they write things like “trusting in the management.” To me that’s like turning off the brain. A non-sequitur to fans’ draft analysis.

Few thoughts after reviewing highlights:

1. Goodbye Neto, you were great (or Exum, one or the other is gone).
2. Is immediately our 2nd best SG if Exum is gone or you consider him purely a PG.
3. Is immediately our 2nd best 3 PT shooter after Ingles.
4. Has great upper body control and shooting form.
5. Good to great hops
6. Good at feeding bigs for alley-oops (Great fit with Rudy)
7. Ingles and Mitchell will be a great tutors for him
8. Should benefit from NBA offensive sets getting open 3s for him (game translates well to NBA)
9. Very good open court player/finisher
10. Good at digging out steals/playing the passing lanes and getting into the break

Was very prepared to not like his game based on his past actions but was surprised at the quality of his game and the fit with the team's needs.

Thanks for the positive breakdown

What about his ceiling?
What about defense?
What could we have drafted instead?
When will he play if Exum is healthy? Is he a backup 3? So when will Royce play?

These are my concerns.

If Im being objective. this is the worst selection in the 1st round... I'd give it no higher than a D-grade, and probably more like an F. Especially with all the talent on the board this is a reach..

Did you see Duke play defense this year ? lol They were a house of straw on the perimeter.

Just my 2 cents. Not gonna argue, just figure i'd let it be known.

Bunch of the players I've been saying are better than Grayson for years, Jerome Robinson, Josh Okogie and Kevin Huerter, all went infront of him...............................
You're a moron dude. You do all this weird draft prospect research religiously and you suck at it. No one here trusts your opinion.

I’m debating whether if you know less about politics or basketball...

Well, IMO Okobo wasn’t a great prospect. He never impressed me, and never understood the reverence you guys showed for him, he almost didn’t get drafted in the first. IMO Allen is much more skilled. I see a lot of Gobert’s attitude in Allen

Sorry guys this was a bad pick. A further negative added to this is the fact we now have Donovan, who has been in a full out attempt to change the perception of this market, and then you pick Allen. Sorry guys, but a pick like this makes a lot of people who cover the league, or are in the league...sort of laugh and think “classic Utah”.

Ok, first of all, stop with the straw man arguments. It doesn’t help your point of view. If Allen doesn’t play the 3 what does he play? The 2? Doesn’t donovon play the 2? Do we really want donovon playing the 1? Pretty sure I saw enough for that during the Houston series.

The rest of your garbage I’ll pass over. But it’s funny that you bash fans for having opinions about these players. I’ll be honest, fans aren’t always wrong and this management isn’t always right.

Fans were crazy over Kawhi. We drafted Burks.
Fans wanted booker. We drafted Lyles.

So it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that fans might be right about this pick. DL has certainly busted in the draft.
Not sure this is accurate. Maybe you felt this way, but a lot of people liked Lyles -- I think the board was mixed on this -- and the board loved Trey Burke and were high on Burks.

You can't be serious....

When you have Donovan Mitchell, this is one of the worst picks they could make.

Why should it be a “classic Utah” pick, don’t be ignorant.

So, you say how bad the pick was and offered up examples that the Jazz should have picked that weren't available to the Jazz when they picked?

Not trying to address anyone's concerns, just my takeaways from watching highlights.

I think he could play 3 in a pinch though, if he picks up some strategies from Ingles on D.
