He's referring to the Armenian genocide that Turkey allegedly committed (they deny it) about a century ago.
i dont like to talk politics in a website related to sports, and its obviously weird if the reason Givony doesnt give credit to Kanter is what u guys call genocide, but i dont use that word. Its obvious u dont know much about politics, in that time this events took place, there wasnt even a founded Turkish republic. But u talk like u lived 100 yrs ago and had witnessed all those events. Or maybe ure a reincarnation of an armenian guy killed at the world war?
Its easy to believe on stuff u hear on tv or newspaper, but im living in this region for 25 yrs and i have armenian neighbours who are really laughing to this genocide words.
So if we put this weird politics on one side, I am happy if Kanters stock is dropped, becuz everyone more or less knows what to expect from derrick williams, but its obvious Kanter has much higher upside than Derrick (which i dont claim he will reach his potential but i believe so) and it will be good for us to get Kanter at 3. He is the only player together with Irving in this draft who has potential to be a franchise player.
But if we wanna see a playoff team as we were in the past 5 yrs, we can pick d will, send kirilenko away, we already have promising young talents and some decent players, we can make playoffs right away. But if we wanna have a contender team, we gotta hit the bullseye by getting the best player available, not the best fitting player, be patient 1-2 yrs, and then im sure we will be in a really good position in 1-2 yrs. Becuz i dont really see many contending teams in the west for future. Dallas is old, kobe is old, san antonio players are already grandfather, there is only oklahoma and memphis which has good potential, so we have a open path to be a contender in the west, just we should follow a smart strategy in this draft, and for me, this is "Picking the best player available" not the " most fitting or less unknown player available"
