Donovan’s foot

I listened to the SLT Tribune podcast with Andy and Tony, and Andy brought up Donovan’s foot. We are now approaching 3 months since the injury occurred. Donovan wouldn’t dunk at his camp because of the foot.

Now I get that could just be the Jazz being extra precautious with the most important foot in 20 years for this franchise, but it seems a bit strange. Royce also had an IG story in Vegas during summer league when the guys were coming back from a workout. I remember it and wondered because Donovan had one foot with a sock on, and the foot he injured had no sock and was wrapped in something and he pulled it away from the camera right when he saw Royce was recording him.....so my question.....at this point do we worry a little about Dons foot?

You guys are always just great. I just was surprised a couple weeks ago to see it was still obviously wrapped, and he still wasn’t willing to dunk as of yesterday. I’m sure they’re just taking care of him, I simply hope his foot is fine. We are approaching 3 months here. An injury they played off as minor, and day to day, is lasting a bit longer than that.

It's a concern.

The Jazz aren't open about this stuff and they also have a history of having player's injuries last a lot longer than it seems like they should.

At this point I'm mostly worried that he isn't getting the max out of practice/training because he's got to go easy on the foot.

I’m fine with the Jazz being extra precautious on their players health. Donovan is in year 1 of his career and I would prefer they and he take extra good care of him, and their players overall. It’s barley August. The not dunking part wouldn’t be a concern if I hadn’t seen his foot was wrapped a couple weeks ago still. But hey, they may just be making sure, and if that’s it, it’s cool with me. I’d rather have Donovan healthy and miss out on a little basketball training than see him go at it before his foot is 110% okay. Caution may cost a little time, but it’s wise in the long run.

What was the foot injury again?

My basketball foot injuries, mainly bone bruises, take a long time to completely go away. You can play on them, and not really feel anything until
after you stop.

I hope with Donovan's age, and world class treatment at his large fingertips, that he can fully recover before the season.

Agreed.
I’m a bit concerned. I would much rather him be able to practice anything and everything right now than have to hold back due to a 3 month old injury that I thought was very minor when it happened.
Foot problems suck really bad and can linger and be chronically re-injured.

Definitely concerned. Foot injuries not only linger they can have huge impact on careers. Not saying any of that is true but the fact it is still impacting what he is doing after this long is a concern. And it has to have impacted his off season workouts.

I just wish we knew exactly what his condition is. If we know that it may linger for awhile then I'll be prepared for it.

I thought it was 100% healed. I dont get the feeling anyone is too concerned about it, but it may become a lingering bigger issue.

I'm not worried in the slightest.

This isn't a fracture or broken foot we're talking about. I expect the Jazz to have learned their lesson after the Curtis Brokechardt fiasco and to have thoroughly MRI'ed the area to be sure. Mitchell had a bone contusion or basically a bone bruise. Bone bruises take 2 to 4 months to truly heal (experience here) and the season only ended a few months ago. But keep in mind Mitchell played through it during the OKC and Houston series. It's very much the offseason and he'd still done some training despite it. Relax.

Through it all, Mitchell has used Salt Lake City as his home base. He’s gone to 4th of July barbecues, a performance by Kevin Hart at Vivint Arena, and many more events around town. And of course, he continues to work out with Jazz coaches and trainers to get ready for the upcoming season. Mitchell will start practicing twice a day at the Zions Bank Basketball Center in the first part of August, along with many of his Jazz teammates.

I care more about how much he cares about developing his game reading and shot decision making skills than his foot injury. It'll be OK in time.

Wait wait wait, Donovan has a foot? Why was I not informed?!?

I just hope it hasn't affected his off-season training. Hopefully he's just being cautious.

I don't know why you guys are jumping on @oneye here. For as little information as we've gotten about his injury and as underplayed as it was after the end of the season it seems like it's still impacting him 3 months after the end of the season. I'm not saying we should panic or something but I think it's totally legitimate topic to raise.
