What's new

Jordan Hamilton at #12

I remember following the Texas team the moment I heard about their adopted Flex-Offense system earlie this year. In my opinion he is not someone I'd be furious with at the 12th, I just think Singleton has much more value. I mean the CJ miles comparisons are very spot on from what I've seen earlier this year; great shooter, hes below average defensively and not much of an offensive threat we should waste a third pick on. If we are so desperate on getting some good shooters there are a multitude of them in every offseason via FA. We should work on buiilding our team around defense, something that a core of Favors Singleton and Hayward could definitely instill in the years to come.

Besides, apparently Singleton completely shut down Hamilton in a workout they had together (can't find link, on blackberry)

I like the thought of Singleton or Hamilton with 12, I'm really starting to like T. Harris too, the guy is really young, he's athletic, he's got good skills, and a good size body. I'd be really happy with one of these guys.

Questions about Hamilton for me would be:

Can he adjust to not being the alpha dog on a team full of scorers?

Can he become more disciplined with his shot selection?

Can he learn to defend?

To be fair, that is the same set of questions for almost every other player in this draft.

Which is what your going to get most likely at the 12 pick.

Exactly, the 12 pick is a place you well never find Harrison Barns. So picking up a guy that has a skill that might be able to contribute right away due to that skill is a pretty good pick at 12

hook em horns!

hamilton had a great regular season but was more of a no show in the tournament. hes a great shooter off of curls and off ball screens. not a great athlete, but id be happy with him @ 12. I still think i like fredette at 12 better.

Sounds like a great fit for the Jazz system. That's exactly what Harpring was doing, and when they weren't shooting threes, Korver and then Hayward.

One of the knocks on Hamilton is he doesn't finish well at the rim. That would be a concern with the amount of backdoor cuts the Jazz run.

It was a positive interview, especially the part about how he had Texas make a compilation of all the bad shots he took as a freshman. That shows real initiative and concern over improving his game. Talking about loosening up his hips was a bit weird, but maybe he thinks teams really want him to play SG and his yoga instructor sold him on the idea that working on his hips would make him quicker.

I've got Hamilton over Thompson, then Burks. I'm not even imagining that Biyombo will fall this far, but if he did there is no question he'd be over Hamilton.

At the combine, the commentators said that Hamilton could have the potential to be a 20 pt avg. scorer in the NBA. If he can get some discipline with this shot selection, he could be a good pick at 12.
