Because it's his right to choose where he works. And probably most sports franchises find out where their free agents sign by reading the announcement on the internet.

The only issue is that they fumbled the announcement and Bartlestein tried to cover it up when in reality they decided when it was initially leaked.

I'll be pretty disappointed with the organization if we do a tribute. The guy literally helped win one series in his career here.

Yeah, you're a ****ing idiot then. Stuff like this matters to players around the league. Free agents will be less likely to sign if they think ownership/management are spiteful/bitter. It might feel good for a second to be Dan Gilbert, but it makes you look bad in the long run.
