Game Thread - Jazz @ Heat 4 PM MTN

Havent read the thread but I hope someone is holding DM accountable for his defense on that last play...

How does a 64yr old D.Wade just find him self in the teeth of the paint like that?? ****ing garbage!

yes he is a pretty bad defender and an irresponsible chucker.

About Exum... He does not have that killer instinct, not yet anyway. He still looks like a deer in the headlights to me. He needs to be aggressive and have that “take over the game” mentality that DM clearly possesses. And maybe he’s just not that talented, but at least let us find out - once and for all. I blame Snyder to some extent. Man, when Exum goes to the rim he is explosive. Seriously. He could be great if he had some Kobe confidence. It’s a frustrating situation.

Why does this season feel so off....

#1 - We all expected to be great because we played well to end last year.
#2 - Mitchell isn't superman. Gobert is offensively limited.
#3 - Our roster really lacks balance. From starters through the bench, we just lack elite skills.
#4 - We are asking a bunch of solid players to play great every single night. Guys like Rubio, Crowder, Favors, etc. are simply role players who are being asked to strong starters or performers while we also need guys like Mitchell, Ingles and Gobert to play like stars every single night.

Solution - we really need one more really good player who can create offense. I would sacrifice a number of these solid role players for just one more guy. I know it's easier said than done, but this feeling of an off season will continue through the year. I just don't see us having the balance to establish consistency strong enough to make it over the "away playoff West team" hump.

^agree, LoPo.
What's frustrating is everyone seems to have regressed.
O'Neale isn't as good offensively. Rudy isn't dominating every night. Mitchell is inefficient, especially from deep. Ingles had a hot start, but has been pretty "meh" since (fatigue?). Favs isn't scoring inside like he used too. And we're seeing "First Half" Ricky on most nights. I guess Crowder is playing better, but that's about it.

Defensively, I think we're seeing the impact of the rule changes. Jazz players can't bump or grab to slow down opponents.

I agree Utah needs another player, even two.

I think one of our biggest problems is that we play too many people in games where the outcome hasn't yet been determined. Let's use O'Neale for example. Last year, O'Neale played really well when Exum was hurt, Thabo was hurt and Burks was in the doghouse. When we squeezed our lineup, he seemed to play better. I simply see no reason to play Thabo. I like the guy and all, but I don't see what he brings to the table. Last night he got 7 minutes and got one rebound, missed one shot and that's it. He was -5. O'Neale was +4 last night and only had 1 foul. He should have gotten all of Thabo's minutes because I believe O'Neale can play 2, 3 or 4 depending on who we got in there.

We have to stop playing people who aren't great at anything. O'Neale can defend. We know Grayson can shoot. Same with Korver. Put those guys in and don't worry about giving minutes to guys like Thabo and Udoh.

Good points! I think Synder made a good point too when he said last years team and success means nothing this year. New season.

I want this team to go on a monster run so bad, and still have hope. Expectations can be tough. With our schedule evening out in the new year, and maybe our players finding some comfort, maybe that's when we'll put it together. I just hope we aren't too far out at that point. We've lost so many "must win" easier games already.

I have faith that we will have a winning season. I even think we'll make the playoffs. However, I see that as treading water and a disappointment because Gobert, Ingles and Crowder are in their prime and not going to get any better. We didn't do enough to build around that core. Spending $35 million to bring back Favors, Exum, Thabo and Udoh was a pathetic offseason.

The Jazz have a #1 option playing on a modest rookie salary - this is a akin to hitting the salary cap lottery.

I'm willing to believe that the FO hasn't made a deal because there hasn't been a deal to be made. But the clock is ticking.

In my opinion, bringing back Thabo coming off a season ending injury at $5.25 million was a deal DL made. The same could be said for Udoh and his $3.36 million. Then you have Exum's deal of $10+ million per year. And giving Favors $17 million per year is also a major deal.

Just because there weren't great trade options doesn't mean we should have done what we did this offseason.

Was there any discussion about Donnie slamming the ball when we called that next to last time out? I thought there was a tech or coach confrontation incoming. Also see Gobert and Ingles yell at each other about once every game but it seems constructive. Team could use a week off imo or some consecutive wins

I think the team just needs to be able to play 3+ home games in a row without having to travel for weeks on end and a lot of these things would sort themselves out.

Great post. Highly agree.

He was angry at himself because he dribbled the ball before the timeout was called. That meant the Jazz couldn't advance the ball after the timeout. There was 32 seconds left and the Jazz had to go nearly full court, so getting a 2 for 1 was impossible.

From my view this was the main problem tonight:

The Jazz tried too hard to work Korver in and the offense stalled out because there is a very limited amount of cohesiveness between the 4 other players on the court, Korver, and the playbook. This led to a prolonged offensive drought, which brought Mitchell back in the game. From there Mitchell felt like he had to take the offense on his shoulders and it led to bad shots and a lack of ball movement.
This^^^^^

This is where AB fit in with the Team. He came off the bench and provided some offense. I think we will miss him, until we get someone who can fill that role.

No, that's not what I mean at all lmao.

Burks was mostly bad for the team. Im just saying it takes sometime to actually get the team acclimated to playing with Korver.
