He's had the Jazz taking Knight and Singleton for a long time, but if the Jazz were to pass on Valanciunas at 12, that would be a huge mistake. Whether he pans out or not, the opportunity to take a talented big and stash him for a year or two is the smart move, especially when they will have at least 3 players who can't legally go to bars on their roster. Taking a player at 12 while passing on a projected top 5 guy would be stupid.

agreed.

From this mock and draftexpresses, it seems as though KOC is doing exactly what he said he wouldn't do.... Go to fill needs instead of going after the BPA.

Color me underwhelmed.

I'd prefer to somehow get a haul of Valanciunas, Fredette, and Jimmy Butler
rather than Knight and Singleton.

How long does it take for Knight to play over Harris? When will Harris be traded? And for what?

Portland is the only team interested in Harris. The Knicks would be a good fit for Harris also but who would they give up? Billups? Billups + 1st Rounder? Billups would be a good veteran mentor for Knight as he was a combo guard like Knight who struggled to find a place in this league for 4-5 years. I'd rather keep Harris for youth purposes though. I'd do Andre Miller and Batum for Harris

Billups would be a buyout candidate. He would never play a game for the Jazz.

I think the Jazz need to seriously consider the effect that having a roster of 12 rookies and 2nd year players.

Especially projects like Singleton.

Why not wait until next year's draft to get a wing that can play both offense and defense? You know, a wing that we actually want?

I would strongly suggest getting someone like Valanciunas, and stash him overseas for a year or two. Bring him over after this current batch of rookies and 2nd year players have a little more experience.

However, building a team of rookies might work well if we were competing for the NCAA title. It probably won't fly too well at the NBA level dominated by trash talking, big name superstars, corrupt refs who don't give young players anything, big lights and parties (just notice how often we've flopped in party city New Orleans?), and cheap shotting vets.

Yeah. The more I learn about Knight and Singleton the more I sour on them. And the more I hear about the other 3 the more I sweeten on them.

Fair enough. Great to be a fan. By the way, I've NEVER been high on Singleton (he has upside, but who doesn't?). I wouldn't take Knight at #3, but he will not disappoint, so I'd be fine with it (I would NOT take Jonas over Knight, and that's not homerism). Fredette will be fine, but I like having size/length/multi-skills at every position ..

I like how people say they aren't taking BPA. How do you know what the Jazz draft board is? BPA is subjective.

Yes yes yes, we all know that Knight is going to be the next Dwill, Rose, Westbrook, Stockton, and Isiah Thomas combined...

But is he really a better prospect than Kanter? Who's the BPA at #3?

Hate it when people do this .. I just said I would NOT take Knight at #3 .. I have clearly provided my concerns of him as an NBA player .. so why that ^^^?

As Rex said, BPA is subjective, for me it's Kanter and Knight at #4.

Hearing and seeing are two very different things and I just have to trust that KOC knows what he is doing right now. I have my own list of favorites and do not otuch players but ultimately I will always be a Jazz fan.

For those who aren't on the Knight/Singleton bandwagon we can find some solace in the fact that out of 12 of the bigger draft sites last year inclucing DX, Chad, SI, HoopsReport, NBADraft.net, etc. only one of them had us picking Hayward at #9, (Yahoo, got that one right).

We are taking Kanter and then Fredette if he's available. Everything else is a smokescreen. Does anyone remember back the year Pavel Podkolzin was going to come out (but later withdrew) and was projected to go top 5 and all the reports were that we really wanted hm and were looking to trade up? Yeah, well we ended up taking him a year or two later, except we drafted him for Dallas.
