Start Dante for Rubio

In how many minutes? :)
Only 20 minutes but outside of our 2 main lineups no lineup has that many minutes. But there are plenty of other stats that show the same thing. Plus if anyone has eyes its very obvious that Exum is a much much better defender than Rubio.

Rubio and Gobert on the court together put up a 100 defensive rating. Exum and Gobert on the court together for 204 minutes put up a 96 defensive rating.

Exum and Gobert are our best defensive combo. Exum, Mitchell, and Gobert put up a defensive rating of 88 in their 110 minutes together as oppose to Rubio, Mitchell, Gobert that put up 100.

Exum in general has our 3rd best defensive rating overall according to NBA.com behind Ingles and Sef. Gobert is 4th.

Disagree. Rubio has been terrible this year on defense. When Exum plays with the starters our team defense is elite. Our main lineup is Rubio, Mitchell, Inlges, Crowder, Gobert. They play together more than any other lineup. They put up a team defense rating of 99 which is really good. When you swap Exum in for Rubio our defensive rating goes to 75, which is beyond elite.

Individual defense helps the team quite a bit. Look at Gobert, he changes things a lot individually which allows others to be more aggressive and stay home. Rubio cant stay in front of his man to save his life. The team has to compensate for that a lot. It puts Gobert in a bad position all the time.
Lol wut?

I looked up on NBAwowy.com that lineup. They've played 14 minutes together and the stats are terrible. They are somehow -25 points per 100 possessions. I'm guessing all these minutes were against the Knicks and the 3rd quarter is why the stats are so bad.

When you take out Favors and add Crowder it does get much better, but it's still only a 19 minute sample size. Not to mention that lineup despite being good defensively, is only +2.5 points per 100 possessions.

Yeah, I meant our main lineup not starters. But I just posted about numbers with significant sample size that show when Gobert and Exum play together our defense is elite. Add in Mitchell and its even more elite.

Exum/Gobert 2 man lineups have a defensive rating of 105. Not elite.

Rubio/Gobert 2 man lineups have a defensive rating of 103. Still not elite, but better.

The Rubio/Gobert one is bigger sample and is probably against more starter level players.

*I really hate using lineup data this early in the season because I think there is too much noise in the numbers*

Not sure where you are looking but that is incorrect their 2 man lineup is 96.6

Other websites are using data from NBA.com so you should just use them.

Add in Mitchell and it goes to 88.

Ehh, NBA.com is glitchy and buggy. I wouldn't use it. They also calculate defensive and offensive ratings differently.

NBAWowy.com is a much easier and more in-depth site to use if you want to dig into lineup data.

What you are saying doesnt make sense. Exum plays. The Jazz are developing him. Two weeks ago you mouthbreathers said Exum couldn't get better under Quin's style of teaching him, but low and behold he got better this week.
Quin has nothing to do with Dante playing well. Quin did his best to ruin his career. He's playing with the ball in his hands for the first time ever

I don't know. I have eyes, and I see Exum lost on defense pretty often. He's great at staying in front of his man and bothering him with his length. Rubio is a much more well-rounded defender.

Individual defense ? Agree. Team defense? Rubio>>>Exum.
I'd argue that Exum's offense is better than Rubio right now. He's more of a threat/puts more pressure on the defense, he doesn't turn it over as much, and he doesn't have to dominate the ball quite as much to be effective. If Rubio is making jumpers then he is the better offensive player, but he so rarely is making them that it's kind of a moot point. Defensively Dante isn't quite the team defender that Rubio is, but that should come with more time on the court . His defensive attributes are >>>>> than Rubio. He just needs more time and chemistry with guys out there. Also playing with Rudy will probably make his defensive numbers look amazing.
