Open Letter to Jazz Fans

When you can cite ONE violation against Calipari (in 20 years of coaching) in 4 .. 3 .. 2 .. Not one. Nice try though. Another example of the masses following the media rather than facts. Sheeeeesh people (some), you do realize there IS a positive side to things, right?? (Meaning, a guy very sincerely comes in wanting to become a Jazz fan and 'some' are to damn angry .............) Still having fun though.

so what are your thoughts on Tubby Smith? just curious.

When I moved to the Bay Area I tried to become a Giants or a A's fan. It didn't happen. I just didn't have passion for either of the teams and I think becoming a fan of a team starts at a much younger age, at least in my experience. All props to you if you do become a Jazz fan, but don't feel bad if you don't or can't.
Archie, do you still live in the Bay Area? I used to live in Concord.

I think you can switch allegiances after you move, but it is harder after you've grown up really rooting for one team. Loyalty runs deep, often until something happens to change it.

As a kid I followed the California Angels because the Salt Lake Angels were their AAA team. I also moved to the Bay Area and gradually switched over to the Giants. For me, it was just taking a real interest in a few players (and no, one of them wasn't Barry Bonds. I hated that guy.). Now I'm in So CA, but it's a completely different situation. I HATE all the LA teams. Nah, I take that back. I wouldn't mind seeing the Clippers do well. It was funny as hell several years ago when they finished with a better record than the Lakers. I will always despise the Dodgers and Lakers. I always have. And, most likely, always will.

I can certainly understand following a player or players to a new team, especially from college to the pros. In football that was the case with me and the 49'ers (Bill Ring, Tom Holmoe, Steve Young, etc.). In basketball, I followed Moses Malone after the Utah Stars folded. I was an ABA fan way back as a lad. Probably still have an old red, white and blue ball in my father's basement somewhere. I knew very little about the NBA until after the merger.

Really good guy. Really good x's and o's coach. Simply lacks the intestinal fortitude / desire to go recruit the best BB players necessary to truly compete.

In other words, he doesn't know how to cheat or let things slide like Calipari or Wooden?

Nope. I tend to mean what I actually say. Believe me, I know everyone outside of UK fans hate Calipari. I admit I did as well, but never thought he was a cheater as others did/do. UK and Calipari are under a microscope every second of everyday. Someone could make a really big name for themself if they could become an informant.

Not sure why it's so difficult to understand why the elite high schoolers want to play for Cal. DDMO, great fan support (the best), best facilities, and as most NBA GM's say, "Cal plays more of an NBA type offense that allows the players to be better evaluated.

Are people sooooo dense to not get that, really? Really, really? Oh well, I didn't come here looking to recruit fans for UK.

Interesting first post. I'm glad that you hate the lakers. That's a good sign.

I feel bad that you had to move into the state of Utahr but coming from Kentucky, I guess it can be considered a lateral move. Well, sort of. Ok, not really. Better you than me, I always say.

As far as being a fan of the Jazz. If you can tolerate complete and abject disappointment, year after year, then you should have no problem as a Jazz fan. As much as you and I both hate the lakers, I know one thing...the lakers own us in every way possible. So, get used to that. Also get used to the fact that most Jazz fans here on this board are incredibly pathetic. Though, there are a few that are borderline idiot savants, without the savant part.

While there are some true basketball nerds here on the board and you can learn a few things about the ins and outs of the NBA, for the most this board consists of emotional posters calling each other names day in and day out.

Welcome.

Also, are you a fan of diversity?

Viny pretty much summed it up. If you want to see good but not great performance, and are satisfied with solid results, winning more games than losing almost every year, occasional WCF appearance, division title, but no championship, this is the place for you. If you are not going to be satisfied until your team wins it all, get out.

Hey clown mongler, why don't you do us all a favor and go tie a noose.

*edit*Nevermind, too cruel.*edit*

Thanks for the delightful negs though.

Weren't you on some zen knowledge seeking pilgrimage to become a better person? You remember that? You were googlin' the interbuttz and learning great facts about becoming a better person and learning 9th grade psychology lessons. I'm pretty sure that lasted at most a day. Typical of your breed.

.... so you take my posts in jest.

I am not a Jazz fan, yet. Trying badly though. I am a multi-generational Kentucky basketball fan that eats, sleeps, breathes, and bleeds my team (10,000+ posts at that board, btw). I've resisted the NBA my entire life for no other reason than "how much time can I spend away from my wife and 5 kids?".

About 5 years ago I 'moved' to Utah (St. George) and met the greatest group of guys ... and they are CLOSE to sharing my BB passion. :)

I WANT (sincerely) to make the Jazz my team (and I think I'd make a great fan) and that's why I'm diving in, head first, and without regard to 'personal safety.' I respect I have no knowledge, no clue ... can't even begin to get you guys and your passion for YOUR team.

Just wanted to let you know that I "want in" and I believe myself to be a worthy adversary for all opponent fan bases.

I HATE the lakers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the community and the forum. I started liking the Jazz when they made the run to the Finals with Malone and Stockton. Ever since it has been one crazy rollercoaster. Prepare for some highs and lows.
