KOC now in charge?

Punch Bowl Re-Filler
Haven't seen anyone really discuss the implications of not having Jerry this draft. We've widely speculated Jerry had the final say - and sometimes outweighed O'Connor - when it came to draft picks.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but KOC seems to be a little more talkative, seems a little less tense this draft. And he's already said that NO ONE is untouchable. Don't think that would have ever happened with 'ol Jer around. Or maybe it's just an acknowledgement - finally - that the team is rebuilding.

As much as I liked Sloan, he was often too competitive. He'd try to eke out a few wins at the expense of the long-term health of the club (i.e. playing vets over guys who should have been allowed to develop).

And Greg is more hands-off than his father. So good or bad, I think KOC is finally completely in charge of personnel decisions. Not that he won't consult Corbin and the Millers on any major moves, but I just think he's finally free to shape the team and do his job without having to acquiesce to the coach's wishes.

I know what your saying and maybe your right, I would bet that Jerry had quite a bit to do with us taking Hayward though... I hope Corbin is taking inititive, he doesn't appear to be calling a lot of shots, maybe thats by design I don't know. I would hope that Corbin is every bit as involved in this as anyone else because he's the only one at this point that knows what his offense is going to be- and as a very good famous coach once said "If they want you to cook the dinner, the least they could do is let you shop for some of the groceries."

It has been pretty well known that KOC really wanted Chris Paul but Jerry was set on Deron, and Larry deferred to Jerry.

How pissed would everyone be if KOC traded one of the pics for future pics? Namely the #3 for a lotto pic in next years draft, most likely protected.

It depends on the protection. I would not give a rat's *** if they dealt the 12th pick for a bag of balls and ibuprofen. With the third pick, and how they got the third pick, they'd better turn it into something more than a future pick.

Yup. No matter how weak a draft is pegged, you don't trade #3 for ?????????????????????

I've always been amazed on the "fire KOC" lot that I always bump into.

If anything, I'm more impressed with O'Conner this year than I ever have been. He had to deal with a lot of crap this year and I loved the DWill trade. I think Jazz fans have liked being successful. However, it's always been tough knowing that if we wanted a title, we'd have to rely on another team to do our dirty work and take out the Lakers or Spurs for us. Get the remodel going for the big time instead of our usual appearance/exit every time the playoffs roll around.

I'm glad KOC is the boss, not just in title, but politically as well. Now we'll know if being aggressive will pay off.
