The teams we're considering trading with probably value their contracts' expiring nature more than the players' productivity. Thus other teams with less productive expirings would be relatively advantaged in relation to us (because they're not losing as much productivity). They would not need to send out as good players to satisfy the Grizzlies/Wizards' desires.

There's a decent chance the Wizards would be better with Favors over Porter Jr. Favors would be a force as a featured center in the East.

Perhaps so. But if Favors makes them better than Porter (and if we're helping them deal with their financial issues), then we sure ought not to be sending them one additional useful player plus a first.

I think with Conley you say to memphis... here are Favs and Ricky for Conley... you can shop them individually for salary dumps where you get worse players and a pick... but we shouldn't have to give up the pick there. If they value Exum I will do Exum and Favs. We could add Thabo for them and take Green back which saves them some this year.. they are right at the tax line so the savings matter.

The San Antonio offer could be decent... but most the other deals require them to take on future money that is bad.
 
Booker would be a good guy to bring back next year if Favors is gone because he could play small ball 5, too.

Favs and Thabo also saves them like $5-10M this year between salary and tax.

I'd drive a hard bargain if I'm DL. Who else is in the Otto market? Sacramento (no pick worse expiring salary) are the main team I've heard mentioned. NO could do Niko/Hill and a first. They don't save as much this year or next. Niko isn't better for them than Favs and is now hurt.

Which is probably why Porter isn't suiting up for the Jazz against the Peskies tonight.

Maybe. I wonder if his career's over at this point though. If he's lost his springs (I don't know that he has, but he's 31 now), he's just a short, strong PF with decent BBIQ but not great skills.
 
I like Porter Jr. I think he'd fit well here. But he's not what we need. We need a shot creator. Someone who can get their own when our sets don't work or the defense plays well. Porter Jr is just another guy who gets shots in the flow of the offense. I don't really think he'd move the needle much for us unless he develops.
