I'm also thinking it's too bad we're in the situation where our expirings (at least Favors/Rubio) are very competent early-career veterans who genuinely help you win games both in the regular season and playoffs. We may indeed be looking to move on from them to find better fits. But there's certainly no guarantee that their replacements will end up being more productive.
The teams we're considering trading with probably value their contracts' expiring nature more than the players' productivity. Thus other teams with less productive expirings would be relatively advantaged in relation to us (because they're not losing as much productivity). They would not need to send out as good players to satisfy the Grizzlies/Wizards' desires.
