2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

If AD added the Clippers as one of his preferred destinations, would it be possible for us to be a part of a 3 team trade to land Harris? Would LAC and UT be able to put together a better package than the Lakers? I don't know about the Clippers assets, but would Favors, Exum, Allen, + 2 or 3 first round picks get the ball rolling on our end?
If the Clippers landed AD, they could push for Kawhi in the offseason which puts them back towards the top. If we could somehow land Harris to help AD get to the clippers I'd be ecstatic. Gobert, Harris, Ingles, Mitchell and Rubio is a damn good looking starting lineup...

So let's break it down. The Pelicans want a good player plus numerous draft picks and dump bad contracts for AD.

- The Clippers do not have a 2019 1st, but they do have all their future firsts
- The Clippers do have a bunch of expiring contracts
- The Clippers have SGA and Jerome Robinson although they do love SGA
- The Clippers have Tobias Harris who NOLA probably doesn't want but Utah does

Maybe something like this could work:

Clippers get AD and Solomon Hill
Jazz get Harris
NOLA gets SGA, Robinson, Favors, Gortat, 3 1st rounders from Clippers and 2 1st rounders from Utah

I'd only do it if Tobias said he would sign for us long term. But this ain't happening. The Laker deal is so much better.

Possibly. I don't think a lot of people realize how close the Jazz were to winning the west last year.

Look, NO move the Jazz can logically hope to make will definitively make them a better team than the Warriors. None. Nada.

Not Jrue Holiday.
Not Tobias Harris.
Not Jabari Parker.
Not Aaron Gordon.
Not Nikola Mirotic.
Not Lou Williams.
Not Zach Lavine.
Not anyone we have discussed as a logical possibility.

Unless there is a miracle situation where we could land a KD, AD, LeBron, Butler, PG13... like an All NBA level talent, we aren't going to move the needle as much as everyone on Jazzfanz would love.

So you're asking the wrong question. The question isn't "Does Conley make us the best in the west?", it's "Is Conley the best option out of the realistic possibilities in this moment?". The answer is debatable in my opinion. I understand both sides of the argument. If the Jazz make the trade I understand it. I do think it would make us better.

His contract also ends the same time as Lillards. I say get Conley, go over the cap for Harris , while we still have Spida on his rookie contract.

You can’t go over the cap for Harris.

So why would a non aging team like the jazz with star players pick up the aging ones smart guy?

Because he's still good now and assuming health isn't an issue will still be good for the rest of his contract, and the Jazz have two young stars to put around him instead of the Grizzlies who only have one older star who's already started to decline + a bunch of scraps. It's really not that hard to understand, the only reason why anyone should be concerned (rightfully btw) over this deal is if Conley's foot/achilles issues surface again and we're carrying $33 mil a year of Conley sitting on the bench in street clothes. The basketball/talent fit in the starting lineup is pretty obvious.

Has any more details of what was included in the Lakers offer come out? If it was centered around Ball, Kuzma and Ingram plus picks I think LAC/UT could beat it by sacrificing a bit more. Maybe i'm just not sold on those 3 reaching, or even coming close to, their projected potential. (hyped up potential because, ya know, it's... the Lakers)
Between us and LAC I bet we could offer more picks, as well as add some young and/or solid players in return. I'm not sure which players exactly, but I bet LAC would offer some established guys, picks and assets if it meant landing AD long term. I'd think the Jazz would offer more young guys and picks/future assets to land Harris long term. (if he'd commit) The Jazz have a couple years to prove we are as good as we've shown we could be to Gobert and Mitchell. They could potentially stay here even if we start to fall out of being a competitive top team, but I wouldn't want to bet on it.
Just saying I know it would be risky, but both the Clippers and Jazz would have a lot to gain by outbidding the Lakers.

Why wouldn’t NOLA just keep Harris for themselves?

Do sign-and-trades still exist?
If they let him go, it’s because they’re signing other people (and need to waive his cap hold), unless he’s saying he won’t sign and wants to go to Utah, and West has a penchant for Exum. I suppose that could happen.

Conley leads them to a win tonight... less ping pong balls in the hopper. Will they realize they are being dumb if they keep him? Maybe they want to try and make the pick convey this year... so gunning for the #9 spot.

Being head GM bawse of nba team is soooo easy guis... why don’t we just go over cap... effs the cap.

The FO has repeatedly said it is willing to go over cap to win. So far it’s words. But I’d hope theyre willing to go over cap to sign Harris. Is that possible? I’m a complete cap dunce.

Gobert/Udoh/Bradley
Harris/Crowder
Ingles/Korver/Niang
Mitchell/O’Neale/Allen
Conley/Exum(Neto)

Thats a sexy lineup. (Approximate guess based on trade rumors)

You can only go over the cap to re-sign someone with bird rights (reason to trade for Niko or Dario), by using the MLE, or by signing minimum salaries and draft picks.

If Gasol gets dealt soon it will be interesting to see exactly what the Grizzlies got for him. It might give an idea of what they might take for Conley. What do we think they'd get from the Hornets? Biyombo/Lamb/1st? Biyombo/Monk/filler/1st?
