2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

I think we’ve got a dude of a deadline guys. I just don’t think anything gets done.

Oof

Wondering why the Heat traded for Ryan Anderson. (I know the Johnson contract is back-loaded but still....)
To cut their tax bill. The Heat and Wiz are the only teams in the league that are both over the tax limit and have losing records.

This undersells the history of black people THEMSELVES in Memphis. The history THEY created. And that there is a substantial black community there in contrast to a place that is one of the most bereft of black people in the entire nation.

True.

Thank you

If my earlier post offended you, please accept my apologies. It as flippant and overly harsh. My only excuse is that is was made in haste as I was running between appointments.

Memphis has been one of the musical capitals of the world. Those days have dwindled, but nobody should underestimate the role Memphis has played in Black American culture. I’m not sure what is happening there now, but that stuff hasn’t straight-up vanished.

The arts and culture scene in SLC, on the other hand, is mainly a mixture of what 20-something white kids are doing + the art-grant stuff dominated by old white folks.

For the people who say they’ve been to Memphis and think SLC lacks nothing in comparison: that statement reveals an incredible amount about you.

I think you are mainly talking to me here...so let me respond. I have been to Memphis and it has a lot to recommend it. It also has a negative side to the experience. Granted my visits came from when I was stationed in Little Rock and are a bit dated, but I think it still holds. There are great things and bad things about most places. SLC is no different. We shouldn't look at Salt Lake through nothing but the negative lens. The same could be said of Memphis, Cleveland, OKC and most other mid to small NBA markets. I do hope that DM can help us change the narrative that Blacks aren't welcome or that they can't be happy here.

I am not Black, and can not adequately imagine the Black experience in America. I can imagine what it is like to be the outsider, and desire to be around other people like me. I have had that experience.

But don't the Heat now have to pay Anderson 20M next season?
ESPN said:
The tax bill in Miami will drop from $9.7 million to $1.7 million. That figure could drop further if Kelly Olynyk misses out on his $1 million bonus for playing 1,700 minutes, which he is not on pace to do.

Miami will create a $6.27 million trade exception with the deal.... Anderson has a cap hit of $20.4 million this season and $21.3 million in 2019-20, of which $15.6 million is guaranteed with the remaining amount becoming fully protected if he's not waived by July 10.

Utah was not a state during the civil war. They became a state 1896. They had slaves but so did many states in the North and they were not considered slave states.

Holy semantics Batman. You are correct.

Utah/Deseret/Mormon Country was pro slavery until the end of the civil war. They bought and sold slaves and captured Native Americans and sold them as slaves. They attempted genocide on a group of Native Americans. They passed laws legalizing slavery. They taught in their churches that slavery was of god.

Barnes avg 18 ppg and shooting 39% on 6spg from 3 pters. moves into Sac Kings lineup and add Alec Burks with Bogdanovic ,Giles,Bagley, to the 2nd unit and Sacramento looks to load up for a run for the playoffs …… still waiting on Jazz to do something

Not sure what this is about cuz Justin Jackson isn't good. I guess to get Barnes off the books

Yes... that is the one that feels like we could have done pretty easily... clearly we aren’t interested in Barnes/Porter types???

It is absolutely crazy how many stretch 4 or power forward players have been traded in the last 24 hours:

Tobias Harris
Mike Scott
Wilson Chandler
Mike Muscala
Otto Porter
Bobby Portis
Jabari Parker
Ryan Anderson
Stanley Johnson
Thon Maker
Harrison Barnes

That's pretty freaking unreal considering we need a PF. I don't want all of them, but still.

Relieved we didn’t get Barnes, he’s good but drastically overpaid. He’d have been good here but not get us to the finals good.
