2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Yeah, take a player with multiple years left or package the pick to get a really good player. No reason to trade a first to get a guy you can sign in the off season.

Fair point.

BUT, by giving up an Allen/Koufos/Maynor you get to sell yourself to Mirotic and get first crack at him as a FA.

You’d sacrifice the crappy/throwaway player to increase your odds of resigning him.

If the Jazz need bird rights to keep Niko it means he's getting way overpaid and the Jazz shouldn't do it.
He comes for the MLE? He’s not worth $15M? What if we re-sign Ricky? No room for Niko...

GS isn't mortal. They look it either. Aren't they on a huge winning streak right now? I think they beat the Spurs by like 40 last night

No one is beating a healthy warriors team in the playoffs.

I would have liked this but I don't want anybody confusing it for me liking GSW. They won't even be challenged if they remain healthy. Gotta pray some of their player leave after this season, otherwise this will continue until someone does leave.

Does it really? If we are to believe recent reports, Memphis wanted Exum. If all that stands between us and a star is 9,6 million in salary, that is a problem that is easily solvable.
We agree.

I am absolutely confounded. And yes, most of my posts have been about this because it is a big deal.

I think most if not all GM's realized Evans was having an outlier year because his contract was up. As soon as he re-upped on a new deal he'd revert back to the under-achiever that he's been for most of his career. The fact that he was only able to get a one year deal as a UFA reinforces that notion.

My guess is the offers were underwhelming.

Sure, they received offers that they felt were underlwhelming (multiple second rounders by Denver and Boston) and instead kept him and lost him for nothing. Wallace wanted a 1st rounder and then was unable to adjust his expectations accordingly. The days leading to the trade deadline they sent Evans home and made him miss several games, alienating him completely. At that point you take the best offer available even if it's less than expected. As HH pointed out, 100% of nothing is nothing.

Unless he takes a discount. I think someone else is going to overpay for him.
The league is overflowing with starting-quality PGs AND the league is trending away from traditional PGs like Rubio.

I think he will be had for between the MLE and $11 million.

Craig Bolerjack doesn’t pay any attention then.

This team is bad ***, but it isn’t a contender.

When Bolerjack can tell the difference between a free throw line jumper and a three I will start to trust him. Ever since @NAOS pointed out Boler talking about EFG% it has become hilarious to me. Like when my dad explains to me how emojis work or something.

I think its pretty clear the Ricky is gone... either at deadline or in offseason.

Clearly the Jazz aren't re-signing Ricky
Not so sure about that. When it comes down to it, there will be upgrades, but would DL feel how much of an upgrade it is overcomes the cost and continuity factors?
