Terry Rozier

Without going too indepth into the stats, Terry Rozier really wasn't as great as many people think he was in the playoffs last year (e.g. Exum had a higher TS% than Rozier did in the playoffs last year by roughly 2%), and his body of work outside of that two month stretch is really leaving something to be desired.

If Terry Rozier is your answer in FA you may as well just turn the keys over to Exum and spend that money elsewhere because he's not that good, and he absolutely is not worth max money.

Rozier is another John Starks. If he is on, you win playoff games you maybe have no business winning. If he is off, you have to be able to manage it.

We desperately need another guy who can get white hot from time to time. I wouldn't give him max, but he should definitely be part of the conversation should we miss out on primary targets.

The cap goes up by almost $20 million between this year and next. The luxury by $30.

And think about this - Exum, Donovan and Neto combine to make less than $15 next season and Exum and Donovan less than $15 for 2020-21. It's okay to spend some money if the player might be worth it.

No it doesn’t. The cap goes up a little more than 7M next year.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if there were people on this forum complaining about Exum's play and want him gone yet these same people want to max Rozier....

I wouldn't even come close to paying him $20 mil like you were implying with some of those other guys contracts as well. Even Jabari Parker has put together a longer stretch of good games than Rozier has in his career. He's going to want starters money and starters minutes, and the Jazz aren't going to give him either. He's worse efficiency wise than both Rubio and Exum, the Celtics are 8.9 points per 100 worse when he's on the floor this season, his per 36 numbers are significantly worse than Rubio/Exum and even Neto's per 36 numbers. His tracking numbers suggest that his effiency skyrockets on catch and shoot scenarios and plummets on pull-up attempts, which probably isn't what you want if you want to stick a 6'1 PG next to Mitchell as you could find wing players with similar C&S efficiency who are much better defenders to stick beside Mitchell instead, and Rozier is worse in the less than 10ft range than both Exum and Rubio. You probably have a better chance of Exum having a good game than Rozier.

The Reggie Jackson comparison that jom suggested is actually pretty good, any team that decides to give this guy either A) A lot of money or B) A long contract or both is really going to regret it. I'd only consider him if you could bring him in as a backup on less than what Exum is getting, but there's going to be at least one dumb team that throws big money at him so I don't think Rozier is a target at all to be honest.
 
Like I'd rather just throw a contract at former Utah Jazz MVP Derrick Rose for a year or two if the goal is to "get another guy who can get hot" than overpay Rozier.
 
Eh, the Rozier/Jackson comp doesnt really make sense.

Jackson was more of a ball dominant PNR attacker.

Rozier is a good 3pt shooter and good defender, but he doesnt provide anything else and it terrible at other important things. He's a less efficient offensive scorer than Ricky Rubio. Much like D'Russell he has to provide a high level of 3pt shooting to be an above replacement offensive player because he isnt creating his own shots well outside of pull-up jumpers (bad finisher/attacker/foul drawer).

He also has super weird starter/bench splits. He's shot great as a starter and terrible off the bench. And its not like Boston has any units that lack talent, so it's just probably just a weird sample size thing or he's a pouter about not getting minutes/starting.

I'd take him for Exum money, but I dont think he would start over Exum. Does he want to go to a team where he isnt penciled in as the Day 1 starter?

Jazz would be better going after a vet who provides a more proven service similar to Rozier, Patrick Beverly.

I like to respect my fellow fans on here, but anybody comparing Rozier to Reggie Jackson just doesn't understand basketball. Rozier plays with a ton of heart and plays good defense. He has games where his shot can decide the game.

I don't love his fit with us, but I do think he is a good player. Boston is a mess and it's not because of him. The guy plays so hard and wills the team to wins at times.

I think Jazz fans would love him.
