Is this overkill?

Anyway I think it is time to move on. Even if AK was willing to sign for a sane amount of money, I don't see what the upside for the Jazz is. He has peaked ability-wise (some would say defensively he did 6 years ago), but my reasons for my HELL NO vote has more to do with mentality. AK and Fes bring a casual mentality that I believe would be detrimental to the development of our youth movement. Watson, Harris, Millsap, and Okur can be the veterans we need to mentor our younger talents. I say regardless of the $ it's time to say goodbye to these two.
 
I'm completely ready to move on from AK, but there was a poll a few weeks ago where over 60% of Jazzfanz said they would like AK to come back.
 
At this point we don't have enough players on the wings. Especially someone to matchup with Durant. AK could fill that role.
 
The biggest question marks are at sf. I think we can all agree on that. If AK can be had for the 4 to 5 million range, the jazz should probably do it. He can still be a big help with Durant, who is our division foe. This is especially true if we can't land an sf via trade.
 
AK's injuries are the only part I'd worry about. Not his age or taking away from younger guys, because there are plenty of minutes to be had for Hayward and Burks.
 
We'll get to see the new CBA before we have to throw a new offer at him, but barring any dramatic changes, I think we offer 2-3 years at 8-15 million total and if he doesn't take it, you let him walk.

Going from $17M to $5M? Do you think AK would do it? Or even if he did, would he give even half the effort? Jazz need to move on from AK. CJ's option is relatively inexpensive. Sign him and let him start. At the deadline he either has value as an expiring contract or as a 6th man on a contender. Jazz got a 1st-round pick for Brewer; I think they could get the same for CJ.
 
If there aren't any trades, KOC is definitely adding a vet to Hayward/Miles/Bell/Burks. I would guess that guy will have to be 2 seasons max. It also has to be a guy who can play big minutes, but understands he might not. I don't know if AK fits the bill on that.

for me, this whole discussion is really tabled until the Jazz's intentions with Paul and al become clearer. If one is moved for a wing, then everything changes. I think this is as likely to happen as not.

AK has already said he'd stay in Utah for less than moving somewhere else. How much less is the question. I think the problem you'll run into with him is teams offer 3 or 4 year deals to AK and hopefully the Jazz would max out at 2 years. Does AK take a 4y/20M or 2y/10M?
