Burks at #12

Surprised that Kawhi Leonard dropped so far; If he didn't cancel his workout with the Jazz maybe they would have taken him at 12.

Surprised that Utah picks Burks, who in his post workout interview, didn't even know the name of Utah's head coach.

Seriously...??? Who doesn't know Jerry Sloan is the coach of the Jazz?

Wow, just read through the comments on the D-News and SLTrib on the Burks pick. I had to LOL at all the hate there because we didn't trade up to get Jimmer. The Jazz got a better player at 2 picks lower in the draft and they are saying that they well never watch the Jazz again. Amazing.

BYU fans right there for ya. At least most of them

1. They're full of ****.
2. I hope they aren't.

I must admit we need a lights out 3 point shooter, Jimmer would have made me very excited about next season.

Business is business, hopefully Burks really turns out.

Surprised it took this long for somebody to post this, I wasn't going to as I am a Ute fan and didn't want to be labeled a hater. But any and everybody had to know whoever the Jazz took at 12 that wasn't Jimmer the onslaught would ensue and probably why KOC was so to the point and stern with his "this is the one and only time we'll talk about him" last night in his post draft press conference.

And I know I noticed moments after from the Jazz's web draft central page from the twitter section people putting hateful comments towards KOC and/or the picks.

Good Lord which article? You click on the Jazz and there's nine damn articles about Jimmer... It is beyond ridiculous!

I'm a BYU fan and I like Jimmer. But you know what? I don't think he was the best player for the Jazz, not even had he been there at #12. Jimmer will NOT be the starting PG for a championship team. Well maybe if the Heat picked up Dwight to join the big 3 and Fredette were their PG. Jimmer is a good fit for an up-tempo team like Sacramento, Phoenix or New York. The Jazz are young, but they're building a team based on size and toughness. I just don't see Jimmer being successful running the P&R with Favors and Kanter. I don't see him playing solid defense for all 24 seconds. He's going to get killed on switches.

I dismissed Burks as a prospect due to already having Hayward (as a 2) and no SF's signed. But it can work. Jazz can sign a FA, pick up CJ's option, move Hayward back to SF for a year, have Millsap play some at the 3, or a combination of several of those until they get a legit SF.

Maggs was an insane athlete too so I'm not sure that's fair but as far as his skills and such, perhaps that's a more fair comparison. And also, I don't think he could even be Wade. Like you said, Wade led his team to the Final Four while Burks led his to the NIT. But from a skills standpoint, he's quite intriguing and similar. If nothing else, he's an asset and right now, we have a ton of assets for next year's draft if we want to move up. Our pick (assuming we are mediocre), the GS pick (I doubt it will be top 7), and guys like Burks, Jefferson/Millsap, and Harris who may be valuable to some team in a package if we really want to move up and get someone like Barnes or Rivers is quite a bit. And i figured I wouldn't even mention Kanter, Favors, or Hayward though there's them too.

Good point about Maggs athleticism. Burks is a decent athelete too, but he is no Maggs. Overall, I just don't know if Burks will make it. With his advertised abilities you would think he would make more difference in College basketball. I can't say I am too excitied about this pick, but I am hoping for the best. SGs who are poor shooters are not a lock to make it. Even if they have good ability to drive. If people are not closely guarding him, he will not suuceed in NBA. This is not a college ball we are talking about. He will be playing against much better defenders, much better athletes. It will be harder to get to the line, and without at least a very solid shot, it will be tough.

Burks is one of the most versatile players in the draft. His best position in the NBA could be PG when its all said and done. He was more or less the PG at Colorado, the ball was in his hands most of the time.

Yeah I am a BYU fan and I like Jimmer. But the people on there have completely lost there minds. "Jazz should have just taken Jimmer with the 3rd pick." "Jimmer is going to score 30 points per game against the Jazz every time they play the Kings" And my favorite (and the most common) "Well the Kings just got a new fan, the Jazz and KOC are sooooo stupid I'll never watch a Jazz game again!"

Holy bandwagon Batman. All these people who have "been a Jazz fan for 30 years" saying that they are no longer a fan because we didn't draft Jimmer? Crazy
