Jazz Tried Trading Millsap on Draft Night

Honestly I would be pretty disappointed in KOC if there wasn't at least some talk to other teams about this. He wouldn't be doing his job if the subject hadn't even come up. Still think we need to keep Sap until we ether get a killer deal or Favors just plain beats him out of his playing time.

In a week like this every single player and pick is discussed. Even players that are labelled "untouchable" (and the Jazz shouldn't have any of these) are discussed because some other team still calls and asks and that may be reported as a discussion.

Yeah it's a toss up.

Do you try to see if he can play SF - let him work off the weight & become faster. One downside is, if it doesn't work out then you basically lose all of Millsap's trade value.

Or, do you try to trade him while his value is at its highest for a wing player.

I think it's really up to KOC's assessment as well as his discussions with Millsap and Millsap's willingness to work and succeed at the SF position.

We the public, I don't think have sufficient information to make an informed decision on this unfortunately...

I love the argument that since Millsap is a midget and easily replaceable that the Jazz can just go to the Wing Player Depot and trade him there for any one of those wings that are young, is (quite) good, could/would fit in, and are even available. You know, any one of those guys in the pile.

The word "tried" is key. I guess you can say they tried, but I suspect the reason they didn't actually do it is they would have to get a true haul to be willing to let him go. You might trade him if the return is spectacular, but you don't let a guy as valuable as Millsap go for the players most teams are willing to give up.

I'll bet they didn't try THAT hard.

Milsap and Harris for the 8 and a 2nd rounder (maybe a future first) should have been a done deal. Or at least Milsap for Stuckey.

Could you imagine a draft of Kanter, Knight and Burks? I think all of those guys were in the top 6 on Utah's draft board.

You realize we have to take salary back?

KoC is a very good trader on the NBA commodities market. NO WAY he'd trade Millsap unless he KNEW he was getting a greater return. And that goes for any other player on our roster. The Deron Williams trade was a great example...

If you can trade Millsap, a future bench player, for a starting sf, then you do it in a heartbeat.

Exactly. So I'd say there wasn't a team out there with that offer on the table, which explains why it didn't happen. KoC did say there was a lot of discussion involving trading the #12 pick, but we opted out when Burks fell to us. Perhaps Millsap was involved there...
