What's new

Following Potential Draftees - 2019 (not kidding)

For what it's worth, Grayson is not bigger than Herro. They have pretty identical heights and weights. They have different strengths and are completely different players. I'd imagine they Jazz wouldn't draft him if available unless they were sold on Herro being a great shooter like Klay Thompson.

Herro is similarly ~ 6'5" with shoes like grayson but his wingspan (taken from Kentucky's preseason pro day measurements) is only 6'4.5", he's got smaller hands, a really poor max vert at 33.5", and despite being listed at 195 lbs, definitely doesn't look it as his body fat is also quite high. The body weight/fat can and will change, but he's got really short arms, and i don't know how much more explosive he will get even with training. he's not close to the athlete grayson was at the same age or is now, but overall you're right in that they are different players. I'm not enamored with the comp, but I guess he could be a smaller version of klay since they are both just average athletes and get most of their offense off quick jumpers and very few dribbles. The other comp people have said is booker which I can see some of in his game as well, but he won't be the iso player that booker is at the nba level. I don't think he can be an on the ball guard like grayson could be as a secondary ballhandler/creator. I still think grayson can be ginobili-light w/ better shooting.

I kinda just want Matisse Thybulle if we keep the pick and if he's available. I know he's not the offensive weapon that we need. I know he's older. But he has great 3 and D potential. And he could end up being All Defensive team caliber on D. His defensive production this past season is rare. 2.5 BPG and 4.0 SPG per 36, a defensive rating of 88.2, DBPM of 9.8.

age is overrated in this one and done age. 21-23 is still so damn young. i would love him if he was a better offensive player, but he also seems semi-redundant to royce IMO.

I agree somewhat about age. I'm not really worried about a prospect we draft filling or not filling a need though. I just want to draft the best prospect available. Figure out the fit and rotation later.

OMG what did I walk into? A serious discussion about Grayson vs Herro? It's not even remotely close.

Herro should be compared to Luke Kennard, and he's a better passer than Luke for sure, while Grayson should be compared more to a fringe rotational player

I used to make a big stink here about how I didn't think that Grayson was even close to Kevin Huerter, or Josh Okogie, and i stand by it....

The big issue with Grayson is they passed on Mitchell Robinson tho... i'd be sick..

A lot of people really like Herro.

The only reason Grayson isn't playable is because he has unbelievably bad defensive reactions. I'm not a Herro expert, but he's probably better than Allen in that department.

If I'm the Jazz, what I really want is a guy who can get me 25/8/7 on any given night. That's a full-sized forward with advanced feel and ball skills. Examples would be a young, healthy Danilo Gallinari (which never really existed), Lebron obviously (who can put up those numbers by halftime), and a few other outliers like Giannis, Otto Porter on his best day, Lamar Odom, Paul Pierce, etc. That would be the ticket. Then the Jazz could fill in the gaps in a number of ways.

I'm not sure there's anyone in this draft who can do it, unless Zion becomes at least a secondary ball handler. Everything would have to go right for Hachimura to sniff that type of role, and it's unlikely.

I did this comparison and got called a racist how dare you?

@Vermin I know ur probably long gone off this forum but we were right about Khem Birch after-all

Hope Mo Bamba picks it up next year, I was hoping he'd make it this year for the Magics but was a disappointment so far. Magics aren't usually good at developing their young players lately.

Fwiw I didn’t say Grayson was better than Herro. It’s just not happening. DL isn’t selecting a 2 a year after selecting a 2...he’s loyal to his draft picks. He gives them time to develop. And with Mitchell, O’Neale, and Exum all capable of playing the 2 as well, it simply isn’t happening imo.
