Hawks Hold Pre-Lockout Minicamp

The Hawks are squeezing in a three-day minicamp for draft pick Keith Benson plus 17 free agents who weren't under NBA contract at the end of last season. There's a real sense of something at stake for the players, too, since the this team has up to eight open roster spots next season.
“They are just showcasing their talents and trying to make a ball club,” Hawks coach Larry Drew said after the morning session on Monday. “I told them this is a great opportunity.”
The players in Atlanta's camp have six practices over three days to make an impression.
“I've been watching a lot of [video] and now that we have them in, it gives me a chance to get a good feel for them,” Drew said. “We have some good talent here. There are a lot of guys that didn't get drafted that certainly could have been drafted.”

Would have benefited the Undertaker and Burks to hit the ground running if we have a season, and if Corbin has his new defense and offense ready he could introduce them to it. Also, we could look at undrafted players we were interested in. Just saying............

We already have a couple of guys on the call list in the two DLeague guys that made appearances for us. A couple of others with Jazz summer league experience are Kevin Kruger and Jamero Davidson if the Jazz want to go that way. I would think they would be looking for point guards and small forward types not bigs.

I won't be too critical of the Jazz's FO because they've shown they can be both very agressive and creative. But it does sometimes appear that they are willing to wait while other teams make decisions.

Kanter
Burks
Harris
Millsap
Jefferson
Miles (they will pickup the option unless a trade happens)
Evans
Memo
Bell
Favors

10 if you count the draftees we will eventually sign.

Meh.

Unless there's a Wes Matthews waiting, I could care less.

Also, who will know if there's a West Matthews waiting? We'll be lucky to start playing games by Feb the way this unavoidable lockout is going.

We have 11 players under contract. We will re-likely resign AK and Watson, or another backup pg and another sf. That puts us at 13. This is our team. The thing that will change is which scrub will run our second team (I vote Watson) and if AK will be back. I say yes, if he signs on the cheap. The reason being, there is no other sf that is as talented as he is. As much as you may hate him, AK at 3-5 million per year is an absolute steal. The question is if he chases the money or not.
