Does anyone know why we changed up our entire defensive strategy for game 1? Why do something for 82 games and then change it all up for 1 game? Just curious, had this defense been successful before? Who used it before?

The Bucks used it against Harden when they played the Rockets two or three weeks ago. They had good success with it as they held Harden to just 9/26 shooting and they beat the Rockets by about 15 points.

When you try out new strategies in the post season that you have not prepared for during regular season, it’s probable that you will fail.
Bucks used it to check Harden and it worked. There video of it out there labeled as how to defend Harden.

Rockets were ready for it. Watch that video and then highlights of Game 1. Houston's spacing Sunday night was completely different.

I like a bigger sample size than one game when you are basing a whole defensive scheme change for an entire playoffs series.
Do we even know for sure that the scheme was the reason for harden and the rockets struggles in that bucks game anyway? Sometimes teams have bad nights. Could have been that the rockets just happened to have a bad night in that game and it had little to do with the defense.

Will Tucker go off like that again? His 3-straight 3's was a turning point, in my opinion.
We had the same offensive problems in last year's playoff series against Houston. We just have a really hard time scoring against their switching defense. We need more players besides Donovan that can create their own shot.
We just have to manage our rotations better. I think Gobert did well when he showed up and forced the Harden floater. Harden, iirc, had one made floater. Other guys needs to close out better and pass the force. I expect we do better with the scheme.
On the other side of the ball, didn't we hire a greek coach to better attack switches? We tweaked some stuff attacking the switch but it wasn't very visible in game 1.

The sets Quin runs are designed to create "advantages" due to mismatches on switches. Unfortunately many teams are compiling rosters that minimize these advantages, as they have players that can effectively guard most positions. When your offense relies solely on these switches, you get into trouble. Which is why I wish the Jazz had sets with more off ball movement with back screens, etc.
