Uta vs. Hou: Game 2 off/def strategy change up?

If you look at the last 4 playoff games against these guys, 3/4 of them have been blowouts. 2/3 have been the worst playoff losses I’ve ever seen (game 3 last year, I was there at the game. I left once we fell behind by 40) and take your pick between Sunday and today. The only worse playoff loss I’ve ever seen was when the bulls destroyed us in game 4 of the Finals.

And always against the same team, with the bonafide superstar who you can’t breathe 1ft away from or you’ll get called a foul. Basketball is being morphed into something else than what I was watching growing up, a shooting contest or something.

Excellent point.

We’re a small market so signing the big time free agents isn’t going to happen.

That makes it all the important that you make smart free agent signings and excel in the draft. We haven’t done that.

Why didn’t we sign Seth Curry? We should’ve gotten Gallinari two summers ago instead of waiting on Hayward. And we’ve been poor in the draft. Two scores and the rest have been major busts.

Local media needs to put Snyder and Lindsay on watch. They've gotten a pass for far too long.

We were a better team last year. I've been saying that ALL season. And ALL season people here have argued otherwise.

I'm wondering if people will finally admit it now.... no, probably not.
I've been saying this for quite awhile now, and have been blasted for it. But I wouldn't put Snyder on the watch list just yet...unless it were revealed he's the one who has ultimate say on the draft picks and F/A signings. You can only coach the players you've been given. And Lindsey hasn't helped him much. Sure, Gobert (which he only gets part credit for), Donovan and Joe. But nothing of note outside of that. DL has wasted pick after pick and not signed any FA's.

Local media won't criticize. They're all owned or controlled by the team.

Facing a much better team will do that to you. I don’t think the jazz lack passion. They lack talent.

As I said in another thread, the Jazz are lacking a lot more than just "a third star". At this point I'm really starting to question whether Gobert can be a central piece to a TRUE championship contender... not a 5-8 seed playoff treadmill team.

Here’s an odd question.

Have the jazz ever been less competitive in a series?

I’m trying to remember when we’ve been swept before. Last time we were swept was in the first round with Big Al against the spurs, right? But I remember in that series we weren’t losing by 20+.

I remember the last time S2M played, we were swept by the Kings. But I don’t recall losing this bad.

And before that maybe once against the Lakers or Warriors? It’s hazy since I think you’d have to go back to the early 90s late 80s.

So the question I’ve got is, have we ever been less competitive in a series? If losing by 20+ in a sweep doesn’t wake up management, what will? Right now this is the worst playoff series of all, BY FAR.

That never happened. Most ridiculous thing to even speculate.
Nah, it’s actually true, but it was Don Nelson and not Cuban. He told Larry H. that he’d give anything on his roster for AK. Could have been said in gest.

I bet PK will say stuff tomorrow. That's about it. Everyone else is a yes-man. I say PK because A) he has no ties to the local teams here; he's an outsider and B) he's close to retirement I'm thinking, so he doesn't give a $hit if he pisses off somebody from jazz brass.

Not in my lifetime. The Kings sweep comes to mind but there were competitive games sprinkled in that series... This is just ridiculous. It's worse than the Warriors series a few years back.

If Gobert is to be a central piece, you need to surround him with talent, like the warriors did with bogut and the rockets are doing with capella. You need at least 2 probably 3 offensive stars. You’d need to probably bring in someone like kemba and Paul George to team up with Mitchell. The top of the nba is just too damn good these days to just rely on a duo. Portland has 2.5 stars with their backcourt and Harkness/Aminu (arguably the best perimeter defender in the league).

We got swept by the warriors 2 years ago. But no, I can't remember ever looking this bad. Plus the Rockets seem to be on fire and get the 20+ lead that we can't comer back from anyway.

This is definitely true about the media. It’s ridiculous the acrobatics that Locke has to go through to justify the team’s shortcomings sometimes. To get his pat on the back from Steve Starks.

Exactly. I remember we had hoped to steal maybe one game against the kings. Malone, Stockton, and AK47 (maybe harp too) were good enough to keep it within reason. But it wasn’t like a massacre like what we’re seeing in this series.

You could tell what to Tonight was going to be like after just the first minute of the game.

IINM, Larry H. killed a couple of trades involving AK. The last time would have given Utah salary relief one year sooner. I remember KOC being livid when the trade details were leaked (it was before the season began) and then the deal fell apart. I want to say it was AK for Marion's expiring, but I could be wrong.

Did we get swept with Hayward? I thought we stole one game somewhere. Alrighty then. Before then the last sweep was against the spurs with big al. Before that was against the kings with Stockton and Malone. Never seen any team get destroyed like this.

Rumors were that Mark Cuban offered to trade Dirk for AK and the jazz brass said no.

Wait what? Never heard this. If true, that has to rank up there with one of if not the worst move of the modern-era. Dirk is a HOFer. AK? Well... his wife had a clothing store in the gateway mall, right?

I take that back. The 2011-2012 jazz spurs series was pretty bad. That was a complete *** whooping... but it was expected. It was a 1/8 match up.

I'm hopeful that our role players are going to show up at home and Mitchell has an elite game somewhere to get the series to 5 games but the Jazz being completely noncompetitive in the first two games has put a dampener on my hopes.

I never heard that. Sucks if real

The rumored AK for ____ deals included Marion, Ginobili, and “anyone on the Dallas roster.” One of these is not like the other.
