What's new

Hoopsworld ranks the Utah Jazz as the No.3 team in the Northwest division

I wouldn't be surprised if we made the playoffs, I think we will be better than people think...I can definitely see us being better than the Nuggz...Portland (especially when healthy) and the Thunder are still better...but who knows in 3-4 years!?

What do you mean "no 3pt threat"? Memo and Hayward are very big threats and Miles, Harris and on occasion Millsap are mild threats from outside.
Milsap shouldn't be considered a three point threat till he shoots it more consistently and proves he can make it on a more consistent basis.

I think much of our seasons hinges on Harris and Hayward. We pretty much know what we're gonna get from Millsap and Jefferson. And what Favors and Kanter can bring to the table will be a bonus in some ways. But Harris and even Hayward are monstrous question marks in my eyes. Harris could repeat last season's nightmare or rebound and have a career year. Hayward could play like he did the first four or five months, or like he did in March and April. We go where they go.

I predict 36-46 and us calling for Harris' head by mid to late December. I also predict a solid but yet still underwhleming second season by Hayward and Favors. Don't get me wrong. My ceiling's limitless for these guys and Kanter and Burks and even Evans. But my gut's telling me otherwise.

i think we will make the playoffs but honestly i would prefer to tank this year and get a good draft pick instead of making playoffs from 8th seed

I must be missing something. How was Harris a nightmare for us? He played 17 games, producing just a little under his average in all statistical categories. I don't recall him being a problem on the floor, but he was a new player on a directionless team. I thought he easily met the low expectations set for him.

Good post. The team was more successful with Harris as the starter as the season ended. I think he's a decent stop gap as long as he's willing to learn and run the system Corbin puts in. Our biggest problem right now is no starting quality SF. Millsap is not a starting quality SF and CJ is the only other option and he's not a starting caliber wing either. I am all for trading a big for a quality wing and bolstering that spot in next years draft.

Whatever we do, I will be astounded if we even compete for the playoffs into February. I expect us to have a lot of growing pains early and improve as the season progresses. With our young players beginning to get more playing time and experience as the season goes along. I will be very dissapointed if 2 of these players are not starting by the end with at least 3 seeing a significant role in the rotation. Those being:Favors, Hayward, Burks, Evans and Kanter.

Speaking of those 5 players could they possibly be a decent lineup in the future?

PG Burks
SG Hayward
SF Evans
PF Favors
C Kanter

Burks may have the skills to play as a taller PG in some situations and with Hayward on the floor he would not be the only ball handler.

Color me underwhelmed with 5.4 apg and 2.88 turnovers, not even a 2:1 ratio. I know he was coming onto a new team but he's a vet and one surrounded by some decent talent in Jefferson and Millsap and those numbers and his performances as I recall them (on 41.3% from the floor) didn't do much for me other than confirm the fact that we still need a point guard of the future.

#'s are not everything. However I agree he's not to be our PG of the future. But the team won more when he was on the floor than when he was hurt after the trade. So even though the #'s look bad he did help the team win.

I'm in the minority, I understand, but throw me into the small group that thinks Harris will have a very solid next couple years (if he's here). I don't think he's the future, but I'm far from down on him. Would have loved to have figured out how to add Knight to this draft and give him a couple years to take over the spot.
