Following Potential Draftees - 2019 (not kidding)

Not an Okpala guy at all. We will obviously take him.

I don't think we should take him tbh, but the Jazz are going to be tempted -- length, IQ, body control, ability to slash, etc. He's just not very explosive. He's also not a knock-down shooter.

I'm hoping another team drafts him before the Jazz's pick. If he gets past the Jazz and is on the board at 25, it sounds like Portland is likely to take him.

It sounds as though the Jazz are prepared to draft at #23, but it's not their first or second priority. I think they really want to make some other deal.

FWIW, I think there's a good chance, say 50% or more, that Keldon Johnson drops to #23. He'll probably work out okay as a 3/D guy. Not terribly exciting, but not total suck either.

I actually really like him, and usually I hate Kentucky guys

Speaking of Darius Bazley, he's worked out for Atlanta, Detroit, Orlando and San Antonio so far, in addition to doing his pro day in LA. The Spurs GM R.C. Buford was at Bazley's pro day and brought him in for a workout just a few days later. He's in play for the Spurs at #29. He's also reportedly being considered by Cleveland at #26. The Blazers apparently are a team that likes Okpala, but also has interest in Bazley at #25. Detroit likes him, though I'm not sure if he's in play at #15. They reportedly like Romeo Langford.

I wouldn't be shocked if Bazley goes at #17 to Atlanta or #18 to Indiana. As far as guys who could be on the board at #23, he really jumps off the page for me.

I’d love them to pick Bazley. What is it about him that stands out for you?

I don't really like Keldon, but at 23 he might be worth a risk. I feel like he's gonna go higher than what the mock drafters have him at. I've mostly seem him from like 23-30, but I wouldn't be surprised if he goes like 13-18

Spurs arent drafting Bazley. Just because you have someone in for a workout doesnt mean you are considering drafting them.

We should consider drafting him and getting him in for a workout though.

His upside is so much higher than a Johnson or Okpala. If we draft it cannot be for the safe/12th guy on the bench 3 years from now guy.

Why is his upside high?

He's the exact same prospect as Jaylen Hoard, who might not even get drafted.

The **** with Bazley is hilarious because he would have had a ****** year at Syracuse if he stayed and no one would be talking about him.

Prototypical athlete at 6'9", 210 lbs with a 7' wingspan and 37" vertical. Good first step and tight handle for a long wing. Ability to get downhill and score in different ways with either hand. Ability to pass off the dribble with some creativity. Quick hands and quick feet on defense, good reactions. Has the ability to guard multiple positions out on the floor and in the post. Still only 18 years old. Needs to add strength and improve his jumper.

He's not going to have an impact his first year, but his overall talent level is comparable to guys in the late lottery and mid first-round. There just isn't much meaningful data to go by, since he didn't play last year, so he feels like a riskier pick than he is.

Yes, the guy who got to workout all year has a high vertical wow. Amazing.

What’s the word on Okpala? I watched his highlight reels and he looks like a pretty athletic slasher. Shot decently from 3, solid steals rate. Good size.

Tell me the differences between Hoard and Bazley pre-college.

The main difference is Bazley's ability to play on the ball. Bazley has offensive skills on the perimeter, like a guard. He can attack off the dribble with some wiggle and hesitations, then use either hand to finish. That's what gives him his upside.

Yea, Hoard does that too. And he did it in college, not HS mixtapes.
