Following Potential Draftees - 2019 (not kidding)

If there’s a player that nobody is talking about who I think the front office secretly loves, it’s Bruno Fernando.

The Ringer updated their mock draft. They have us taking Thybulle and Brazdeikis. Keldon Johnson moved from 27 to 16. Hachimura from 23 to 12. Claxton from 42 to 17. PJ Washington from 10 to 19. Ty Jerome from 29 to 22. Kevin Porter Jr. from 13 to 26. Windler from 22 to 29. Dort from 25 to 34. Okpala at 38. Bruno Fernando from 34 to 42. Paschall from 47 to 44. Daniel Gafford at 46. Jontay Porter from 45 to 56.

I think the 'unexpected' things that Bruno showed in the workout include his passing and his mid-range shooting. He's got some skills, and he has a few offensive moves from mid-range that are comparable to Deandre Ayton (though Bruno is a couple inches shorter). Combine that with the fact that Bruno has a body and athleticism that's almost on par with guys like Derrick Favors, young Dwight Howard or Alonzo Mourning, and yeah, he's a nice prospect. His problems seem to have been his awareness on defense in certain situations, but Kabengele gets some of the same criticism.

One way or another, the Jazz are going to lose Favors within a year, and they may be willing to draft a big. It's probably not their first choice to draft a big, but I think the Jazz like both Bruno and Kabengele. There's a good chance that one of them is available at #23. I think they're probably intrigued by Claxton too, but he's so raw that he's more of a project.

I could absolutely see the Jazz taking Brazdeikis at 53 if he happens to be there.

Yeah, Claxton makes a huge rise. Theirs is a good mock. They've got the early 2nd round in pretty good order. I still think someone is likely to take Bazley in the first round though.

According to Walt Perrin, there are 3 guys who turned down workouts with the Jazz whom the Jazz think are likely to be on the board at #23. I'm guessing they are Cam Johnson, Kevin Porter Jr. and probably Keldon Johnson. I'm not sure what the story is on Mathisse Thybulle. He supposedly got a promise from Boston at the Combine, and I assume it's for 20 or 22.

That's insane

I take Windler at 23 unless someone much higher falls.

I think Walt Perrin telegraphed too much yesterday how much the Jazz love Bruno. If they do draft him Bradley ought to enjoy life in China or Australia.

I feel like my dream relatively realistic scenario right now is Talen Horton-Tucker at 23 and Jaylen Hoard at 53.

I'm still hoping the Jazz can trade Bradley for a mid 2nd-rd pick, after the decent bigs of this draft are gone. They could use that pick to draft a Jalen Leque, Iggy Brazdeikis or Zylan Cheatham. They can get a rotation player into the 40s of this draft. Paschall could even be picked up in that range.

Maybe Bradley and 53 can get us a pick around 42, lol.

I actually really hope we trade the 1st round pick for either two 2nd round picks or an asset and a 2nd pick right. I really like the depth in this draft and like our chances of landing a solid player with 2/3 second round picks as much as I do our first round pick. The contracts would also be non-guaranteed so we wouldn't be locked into it like we are Bradley.

Gotta be honest... I would be disappointed if the jazz trade out of the 1st round. I get caught up in all the draft hype every summer and this year is no different. In fact maybe more this year than usual. With all the movement in all the mock drafts it makes me feel like the FO can pull a Rodney hood or Alec Burks out at 23. A guy who can play and contribute day 1.

Oh great now I have set my expectations too high. Dang it.

I do like a Philly trade down for their pair at the top of the second, but would like to see how the board shakes out a bit first as this is a very unpredictable draft.

Feels like all the prospects we worked out are in that fringe territory.
