Conley Officially a Jazzman

By all accounts DL has sworn a blood oath that he will never let Favors go. So many people cool with this. I feel like I’m in an episode of the Twighlight Zone or in some alternate universe with how many people are totally cool with keeping Favors now that we’ve fixed one problem in the starting unit.

Am I ****ing crazy?
I hope we can somehow use Favors and Exum in a trade for another piece. But keep in mind that trading Favors for a stretch-4 means that we also need to get a backup center; from what I gather, we haven't the cap space to get a quality stretch 4, center, and wing.

Can we find a better 4 than Favors? Very likely.
Can we find a better backup 5 than Favors? Nope.

Ed Davis. Dewayne Dedmon. Even Bogut.

Use the exception on DMC. Sign Vince Carter (a title in his record setting season?), bring back Booker on a minimum deal, other vets will sign for minimum with that team. Just need to drop the DedEx/Favors worship.

Tyson Chandler as the backup C on vet minimum might work. Really good defender and efficient on offense. Great leader.

I love this trade. Well, I would have rather they just gave up one draft pick for it, but other than that I'm thrilled. Even if Conley bolts next year I'm glad they took a swing for a player who is a real talent. Conley is so underrated and will fit this system perfectly.

There's some risk here for sure, either of him bolting after a year or getting hurt, but I don't care. It's a huge upgrade.

And at the very very least, he won't be on Memphis to torch the Jazz 3-4 times a year.

EDIT: Actually I'm a little bummed Crowder is gone, but mostly because of the toughness he brought to the team. Still a worthy price to pay.

A lot of stretch 4 options out there should we trade Favors.

Marcus Morris, Ariza, Millsap, JaMychael Green, Portis, Mrotic, Randle, Gay, Aminu. Probably forgetting some too.

The problem is Favors is also our backup 5.

I wonder if there’s anyway we can trade Bradley to free up space. Or maybe sign Sef to get over the cap. He can be one stretch 4 option.

Then use a partial MLE on Caruso and a partial on Green.

Is this far-fetched?

Conley-Caruso-Neto
Mitchell-Exum
Ingles-O’Neale
Favors-Green-Sef-Niang
Gobert

We’d have solid depth and still have Favors and Exum as assets.

Hadn't read your post before I posted.

I am disappointed we didnt try and chase Tobias or Russell.

I feel like we just decided we cant get either one. Maybe they had good inside info but I think they just took the guaranteed deal instead of taking a risk.

But I guess it would have really sucked if we missed out on both of those and Memphis traded Conley somewhere else.

I am sure I am in the minority, but I think I would have rather taken Chris Paul + 1 or 2 1st Round Picks (as was the rumor of Houston trying to shed Paul's deal) than getting Conley and have to surrender 2 first round picks and 3 players. With Paul, even though his contract is massive and he is older, there would no longer be a revolving door of PGs. Paul is better than Conley, has been a mentor to Mitchell, and is locked in for the next 3 seasons. Conley's deal next season is not much less than Paul's and he can opt out after 1 year. I would rather have a HOFer, more picks (Utah's + Houston's), and Crowder and/or Allen still on the roster than just Conley.

Wow, I'm just. . . Wow.
When I read through the quotes around the league (Now posted!), 90% of NBA fans think this was a big, bold, and effective move by the Jazz.

Post incoming!!!!!!!

Exactly. We lack depth and we could get a solid backup center and a better starting 4 but I honestly think we’ve got tunnel vision.

Kevin Love would be the only realistic player I would want to get in an exchange for Favors. I don't think Love will be on the block until the deadline though.

Yeah, Boston poking around kind of lit the fire.

Try to trade, and if you can’t, dump Faves.

Sign best stretch 4 we can for around 15M.
Sign Caruso with remaining space.
Sign Chandler at backup for vet min.
Sign Vince Carter for the same.
Maybe reup Sef?

He’s on the block now. There are no takers. If he comes back healthy and puts up 20/10, he’s out of our reach, and we don’t really have picks to trade, and Exum will still suck.

I'm guessing it was just dependent on stuff they have no way of knowing.

Yeah, the Jazz can back channel and find out what Harris wants to do, but they probably can't back channel and know what KD is going to do, or what Jimmy Butler is going to do.

Butler leaves Philly, then Harris might get the 5 year max and stay.

That happens and KD doesnt go to Brooklyn, then Nets keep Russell.

Just too much uncertainty.

This trade has been pretty much universally praised by the national media, everyone thinks it was a great move for us that will make us significantly better.
It's odd. It's been praised by most people but just blasted by many Jazz fans, especially those on RealGm. But just them. Just about every other fan of other teams thinks it's a great trade.

I agree, I just liked Russell better and we wouldnt give up anything for him plus have more space for other players. But I also want more risks taken then the Jazz are willing to. I think we had a decent shot at one or the other but that might just be hopeful thinking. They may have well been told through back channels that they those players aint coming.
