Put Together the best Jazz roster of all-time

Using at least 4 current Jazz players (draftees are eligible and current free agents), put together your all-time Jazz 15 man roster that you would want to suit up in the 2011-2012 season (starters listed first; current players in bold):

Center: Memo, Eaton, Kanter
Power Forward: Malone, Boozer, Jefferson
Small Forward: Dantley, Kirilenko, Russell
Shooting Guard: Maravich, Hornacek, Shandon Anderson
Point Guard: Stockton, Williams, Griffith

Jeff Malone should be on there ahead of Russell and maybe even AK imo.

Eaton should start, not Memo.

Favors should be on there ahead of Kanter. And Hayward above Anderson possibly.

SF- Dantley, AK, Russell, Bailey
SG- Hornacek, Pistol, Griff
PG- Stockton, Deron, Green
 
I thought the Jazz had a SG or SF back in the 80s with a great vertical leap on his jump shot ... am I thinking of Griffith?

It's silly to be talking about where the new Jazz players go on the all time list.

I'll go with a nine man rotation.

Eaton Favors
Malone Carr
Kirilenko Hayward
Hornacek Griffith
Stockton

I'm assuming Favors and Hayward at 25 years old , not 20.
Heck, you can put Harris and Kantor on there too if you want guys from the current roster.

I'd have to review some tape to round out the roster.

Since we are dreaming , can we pick players that magically are 25 years old, regardless of how old they were with the Jazz, and can we assume that the refs call the games fair?
If so, got to put Chamber on there too.

Might consider somebody like Keefe to give some symbolic honor to the many role players that are part of any good team.

I might also consider somebody like Ostertag or Polynice too, since they were always underappreciated.

I can't really speak about guys before the mid 80s.

Dantley certainly deserves to have a roster spot, but It's my team, and I'm going with Keefe!

12 man roster is all you need.

Ouch. Is that the most impressive 15 man lineup we can field after all these years. No wonder the Lakers have our number. Imagine the lineup they could field.

Griffith wasn't even a point guard (should probably take Shandon's spot), and you're missing Ricky Green who was a great point guard. I always hated Dantley's game but he did get the job done (though I'm not sure he would as a small forward). Maravich was sort of the opposite of Dantley (fun to watch but not too effective). I hope that Hayward and Favors soon crack this lineup. It needs serious help!

If you're doing this you should probably add Daryl Dawkins, Dominique Wilkins, Mark Jackson (even though he's such a putz), and a handful of other guys who came through Jazzland at the wrong time in their career. You might even really twist the rules to bring in Magic.

I'm pretty sure that listing Thurl Bailey over Mark Eaton at Center qualifies you to be shot.

Not only that, whats the deal with Maravich not being considered the best SG in Jazz history? I realize that you're not the only one who's done that in this thread and I understand the Horny/Griffith love, but NO WAY were they even close to better players than Pistol Pete.

I still need to see somebody who put Horny or Griffith ahead of Pistol Pete attempt to explain themselves. I just can't see anybody actually thinking that either of those 2 guys are even close to being a better player than Maravich.
 
Horny would be our 3 point specialist. You can't just start a team full of people that need the ball all the time. Pistol Pete will be an amazing 6th man, and get to come in and do his thang.

You're right about Pete, but shot for Thurl over Eaton? It's not like we're talking about Jabbar or something here. I should have started Al at the 5 he has at least averaged a double double.
 
are we looking at just their Jazz career or their over all career? Over all career then tom Chambers deserves to be there.

While Eaton was no Jabbar, Thurl was never a "true" Center, so how he could land ahead of Eaton on the list is beyond me. Bailey was versatile and could give you good minutes at all 3 frontcourt positions, but if you're going to make a list of the "best Jazz roster of all-time", Bailey is not the #1 option at Center.

Frizzdude, the exact same thinking can be applied to your Horny argument. Simply put: He is not the best SG in Jazz history. Now if the thread were titled "Put Together the most cohesive Jazz roster of all-time", then you'd have a valid point.

With Dantley and Malone, I don't see Maravich working in the starting lineup. I'm starting Horny and bringing Pistol off the bench for firepower.
