Utah Jazz Players in the FIBA World Cup(in China)

Game is under way... Gobert Starts vs Salah Mejri

France trying to post up Gobert... lol He gets and 1.

Rudy is out after 8 minutes... 5 pts, 3rbs, 1ast 2/2 from the field, 1/1 from FT.

Owned the 1st quarter. Best player on the floor.

Theo Maledon playing for France a bit. He's projected lottery pick in the next draft.

Also, the guy Boston signed Poirier looking good.

Rudy back in with 6 minutes to go in the second quarter.

Has he shot any 3’s?
No but they are trying to post him up. LOL Has gotten 2 and 1s from it.

End of Q2. Gobert has 8/4/2/1 statline 3/3 from the field. 2/4 from FT.

edit: start of Q3... Collet is doing the exact same thing he did last time - he's not starting his starters in the second half. He's weird...

Gobert back in the game with 4 mins to go in Q3.

Gobert scores on yet another post up. They are letting him establish deep position and feeding him the ball against smaller defenders. He's not missed yet. 3/3 on those postups.

Gobert exits the game with 6 minutes to go in a blowout win, finishes the game with 12/5/2/2 statline 4/4 from the field 4/6 from the line.

Maledon looks good BTW. Looks better than Exum was at that age. He also looks better than Frank Ntilikina is right now and he's 3 years younger. I wouldn't be shocked if he's drafted pretty high next year.

Why do we want Rudy to play and create from the post? That's not who he is and it's a bad shoot anyway. He would benefit from a floater or a close range shoot when the defense collapse on a roll though
Why would we want a center to develop a post move?' I'm legitimately confused here. Why wouldn't we? A floater? Why does Rudy need a floater? Floaters are for dribblers that get into the lane. As fat as a "close range shot", the only way he gets that is by posting up. How else is he getting the ball that close?

How does he get the ball close to the rim for all those dunks last year? It wasn't by posting up.

By pick and roll in which Gobert is great at. That takes two to tango though. I'm seriously so confused as to why people think Rudy developing a post move is a terrible thing. Why are guys so against it? Him dominating the post on offense would be huge not only for him but for spacing. We have enough shooters. I think he could easily be an 18+ppg player.

Maybe I'm missing something here...

Uhhhh nearly nobody posts up dude. Most inefficient offense

Rudy is gonna ave 18 without any of this post up rubbish. Just by doing what he is elite at but now with space to move

I would like Gobert to be good enough in the post to punish a mismatch on a switch, so this is awesome news even if these players aren’t NBA-caliber centers (because I wouldn’t want him looking for that shot against one).

I'm going to have to agree to disagree. I think Rudys next step is learning how to create for himself on offense. The guy is 7'2", imagine the luxury to be able to throw down to him when we are struggling and get an easy shot. Embiid makes a killing off of it, so did Booze and Malone. He's more than capable as he has the tools and he's done it before, he's just not comfortable with it. He gets comfortable with it, it only adds to his dangerousness. It sure doesn't detract in any way or form.

I think there's a difference in body-type and general athletic makeup that makes it considerably harder for Rudy to do this on an elite level than it is/was for Embiid, Boozer, or Malone. And let's be honest, in today's NBA the only players you want posting up are those who can do it at an elite level. Otherwise, it's just too inefficient a play.

If it turns out he can develop it, great. But I don't think we should imagine that it's the natural and easy next step. There's a reason only a very small percentage of NBA players develop the capacity to do this efficiently (and it's not for lack of effort).

firstly Embiid for all the hype is a little inefficient.

secondly Rudy's centre of gravity is too high to be able to back down guys in the post He's NOTHING like Boozer or Malone

thirdly you're talking about yesterdays offense Get with the program We absolutely do NOT need Rudy to develop a post game. One move is all he needs, a little hook shot that he can use to take advantage of a mismatch from a switch That is all.

You were saying that him having a floater is pointless. But here you are talking pick and roll so....... How about a pick and roll and when the defender is there to prevent Rudy from getting to the rim he uses a floater (I have already seen him do this btw)? See how that could be a good thing?

The one he was going against today is an NBA caliber center. Played for Dallas that I know of. And wasn't a Tony Bradley type player but an actual rotational player.

Anybody see the three point competition between Spida and kemba? I have yet to see it but a co worker watched it and said that they each made like 18 threes in a row before anyone missed
