Predictions on the Jazz for next years young players

Agreed. I was real nervous about Thompson heading our way, but was more than satisfied to see Burks slide to 12. Too much versatility to be ignored.

Maybe the school had something to do with it. Also not making the tournament hurt. I think what it ultimately came down to is that Burks is a SG who can't shoot - or at least that's the perception. He had a terrible year percentage-wise. Alec has many similarities to Ronnie Brewer. The big difference, though, is that he doesn't have a physical condition which will prevent him from improving his shot. He's at least a very good FT shooter. Hornacek will be able to correct whatever problems Burks has with his form.

I'll admit I overlooked Burks because I was thinking SF (figuring Hayward would start at SG). But I think he'll be a good fit. He and Hayward will be great coming off curls. And Burks could be the scorer we've always wanted off the bench. Several years ago the Jazz tried to sign Maggette. Burks could be that type of player for Utah.

I think Burks not making the tournament was a blessing for the Jazz. I remember the year Roy came out of school. He was predicted to go late teens - to the Jazz. Then the tournament happened, Roy went off, and he goes top 5. I wonder if Burks could have played a game or two where people actually were watching, if he would have gone a lot higher, especially in a draft with so little depth at the sg.
 
Burks - 17 ppg, 3 apg, 1.5 spg
Kanter - 8 ppg, 12 rpg, 2 bpg
Hayward - 15 ppg, 6 apg, 6 rpg (I still think he has to be traded tho)

Why?
Between the 2 and 3, there are 96 minutes per game. Jazz ain't bringing back AK. CJ has a 1-year deal; he'll be gone or traded after that. And Bell is washed up. So even if the Jazz draft or trade for a SF, there are still enough minutes for 3 players to get 32 mins/each at the wings.

Personally, I'd like to see Hayward start at SG, then slide to backup SF when Burks comes in. Alec could be a great 6th man like Crawford (or actually like Maggette used to be). Both could certainly start at some point, though. From what we read, Hayward has been a workout maniac this summer. He could easily put on 15 lbs and look like a prototypical SF when basketball resumes.

I think the best balance would be to start Jefferson, Favors, CJ, Hayward and Harris. That's enough options on offense, with Favors a strong interior defender (and CJ only plays this year until Utah can trade or draft a better SF).

The 2nd unit is then anchored by Millsap, Burks and Kanter with Watson hopefully returning as the backup point. Seriously, that's not like putting in a 2nd unit; it's more like sending in the next wave.

If the young guys develop, Utah has the potential to be one of the deepest teams in the league. I don't think we've ever been able to say that.
