2 Solutions We Have On Our Roster Right Now

So, the bench is a legit big issue... it is not the only issue of course. Watching the game last night after another failed Ed Davis Joe Ingles pick and roll (I swear they have like a 90% turnover rate)… I decided to look at some numbers. We actually have a couple answers to our current issues but Quin is currently too chicken **** to try them...

- Tony Bradley not Ed Davis... this will shock many of you that pay attention to my meanderings. Tony should be getting all the backup 5 minutes... he has actually earned it with his play and he fits what we want to do much better. Fun fact... Tony is in the 92nd percentile as a pick and roll man. He has turned it over 0% of the time... Ed has not caught and finished one (I think). Last year he turned it over on almost 20% of his possessions as a roll guy... which is like last in the league type bad.

Our offense is predicated on the pick and roll... having a guy that can actually catch and finish might change the world for Joe and the other second unit ball handlers.

TB is also doing a better job on the offensive glass... though some of it is him rebounding his own misses... he at least caught the ball (twice) to accomplish this task. We are like last in the league in offensive rebounding, near last in forced turnovers, near last in committing turnovers, all this adds up to us getting 5.5 less shots per night than our opponent. TB will help with many of those things.

-Any G-League guy in place of my guy Niang.

In fairness... my guy has shot well... he does some useful things, but the Green, Mudiay, Niang grouping aint gonna work... too much gunning. Too little non-scoring activity. We are soft as **** and this is a place we can improve. Play Brantley or Howard... they are physical guys and will do some ****... play Oni, he's more athletic and will be able to guard the wing more effectively... these guys will bring some energy... if not you can go back to Niang. These guys will screw up a little but Howard and Brantley have played well enough to warrant some run with the big boys... plenty of undrafted guys and rookies are filling these types of roles throughout the league... it is time to try one of them. The bench unit needs some damned activity... Green, Mudiay, Ingles ain't going to bring that. Maybe one of these guys can get a fastbreak opportunity... that's something we need more of too.

It is time for Quin to rattle some cages... he has given it enough time.

We need to put Ed Davis on the trade block now. His signing is a big mistake and we really should've acquired a PF with his MLE

Regarding Niang, he shoots a good percentage, right? Why can't the Jazz get him more shot attempts? Wouldn't that help?

The roster construction and composition is poor. Normally I'm not a fan of mid season moves but they must add a real PF asap or the season is lost.

Regarding Niang, he shoots a good percentage, right? Why can't the Jazz get him more shot attempts? Wouldn't that help?

Because Niang lacks elite offball movements to get himself open. And he is also terrible at pick n pop. All he does is spot up and it is really hard to consitently get shots that way because it is so easy to guard. And his percentage would drop significantly if he is forced to shoot outside of his comfort zone, that is shown during last seasons playoff.

So clear and simple yet so difficult that our front office couldnt realize. People scapegoating DM and Rudy when it is clear that we don't have a PF on this team and everyone's performance have to suffer as a result of this obvious hole in our lineup.

Rudy subbed out the game last night with 3 mins remaining the first quarter. OKC immediately went on a 16-4 run over the next 6 mins.

That lineup was Mudiay/Mitchell/Niang/Green/Davis, then Ingles subbed in for Mudiay at the start of the 2nd quarter.

The only realistic trading piece on this team is Ed Davis. You have to give away draft picks just for other teams to take on Exum's garbage contract, with nothing else in return. Let alone getting Marcus Morris.

And don't pretend we had the lead before Rudy got subbed out. You know a team is in trouble when players like Jeff Green and Georges Niang are taking the majority of you PF minutes

News alert, gobert's completion rate on the pick & roll is not great either. I agree with the OP, as hopeless and desperate as it sounds, Tony Bradley has got to get more minutes cause he's got wide receiver stick-em mitts, is deadly on the pick and roll and has a soft touch. Course he can't jump high and he ain't fast, but he is the closest thing we currently have to Derrick Favors. Remember, Tim Duncan couldn't jump either and he was slow as molasses.

Regarding Niang, the team's token whipping boy - why? The guy is a legit 3 and D. Sweet stroke, shot over .400 from three last season. Defense is nothing special, but it's not as bad as some make it seem either. Watching Bogey get blitzed on consecutive back-cuts the other night.

I agree, but Quin is loyal, favors vets, and is very stubborn.

We shall see what it takes for him to crack.

Jarrell Brantley and Miye One are probably better than Niang right now. I think Niang is still in the rotation because he plays hard, and he knows the offense. Let the veterans get the blender started and going a little bit, and then we can introduce our 2nd round draft picks into the system. Transitioning to the NBA is hard enough, trying to do that transition on a team that doesn't have it's head screwed on right is going to make it impossible. It'll take time.

Tony Bradley has the best hands of any big man on our roster. We should absolutely be using him more often with a high dose of pick and roll while he is on the court.

I know it is definitely a factor but I hate the argument of not being able to try something because player X will check out... If they are playing worse than the other guy then what is the huge loss. It would suck to get benched but the other guy is playing better... so play better.

Absolutely mate. I know we're a family franchise, we trust our coaches and players more than most, but this is a window where we are meant to be winning, and this year's team is no exception. We need to be brutal about doing anything to succeed, especially if we are expected to win.

Finally some thread discussing solutions to that crisis and not only crying and whining. You are absolutely right about Tony, he earned his chance. Bench sucks defensively anyway and Ed is no rim protector. That would give some option on offense at least.
