2020 NBA trade deadline discussion

That’s interesting because we waived Jerebko but didn’t take any kind of flyer on him when he was cheap. So they may like him, but they must not like him at $7M as much as they like Niang at $1.5M.
They didn't seriously try to sign him. The Sixers initially got a verbal agreement with him for something like $3 million a year on two or maybe three years before he reneged to go back to Europe, then being brought back to the NBA by the King's "big" offer.

Jazz straight whiffed that one.

Yeah, that’s why it’s funny that we hear they’re “interested” in someone they could have easily had.

I guess the thing I forgot to add is that they would've been able to sign him for less than $7 million a year, too. But I guess that figure was waaayyy too high, so they instead pinched their pennies to spend ~$10 million on Exum and $17 million on Favors.

I do think that at the end of the day Bjelica partially solves our Ed problem. I think of all he has to focus on are the boards and defense, he’ll be fine. Clarkson, Royce, Bjelica, and Davis + another starter is a good bench rotation.

Fond out what Sacramento wants.

Forgot to add Bjelica, who Locke has mentioned a lot. And Andy Larsen mentioned on The Weekly Run that the Jazz have tried to trade for him and sign him in the past.
This one stuck out to me... I think it’s doable but I think he’d have solid trade value if the kings moved on. I think he’s kinda underrated.

I mean, I’d do it. But Miami doesn’t have all those open slots, so they obviously only do this to shed salary (which may be a concern). They are a legit threat in the East, though, so I can see them retaining all depth.
They do want to shed salary... they are hard capped and want to sign Chris Silva to a real contract instead of his two way deal.

For sure. I’m glad Bradley is gonna get his chance over the next month. But I expect a legitimate upgrade if he doesn’t step up. Olynyk would be an upgrade (not a great rebounder, but I think he’s a good team defender and plays pick-n-pop while moving the ball... those would be huge attributes for us). Frank doesn’t feel like one.
After struggling with the Niang experience... I want more of a defender. Kelly is a good passer and shooter... but I heard his defense has slipped. I’d probably still be totally cool with adding him or Frank.

Bjelica can certainly help Utah. He only played for poorly run clubs like MIN and SAC so far while he's the kind of guy that can contribute to a playoff team. Tough and cold-blooded with a lot of malicious bones. He's a former Fenerbahce player like Udoh, Bojan.

Former FB players have been doing well in the NBA and it's no coincidence. Fener's coach Obradovic might easily be the best in the world -if you don't believe me ask Coach Q who spent a year in Europe. Obra is also superb at developing players so Utah should keep a close eye on former and current FB players.

I highly doubt Utah can land Bjelica. He's been putting up impressive numbers this season and might be pricey. You also don't deal with SAC's GM Divac, a gigantic piece of crap. And a more athletic/quick PF is more needed for Utah. Someone like a taller Trevor Booker.

For bolstering the bench I would recommend another ex-FB player that could be had pretty easily: Nicolo Melli.
Donovan almost killed his career with this dunk but dude can play. He's a team-first dude that would play one-legged if he's asked, a great as #8, #9 option, perhaps more going forward. The rumor in Turkish media hints a possible return to Fenerbahce following his poor start in NOP. Perhaps he can be acquired for a bag of chips.

I don't think Belly is in the cards for this year - if DL could pull that off with the movable assets he has that would be a minor miracle. I'm sure Vlade would want to package him with Ariza - in that case he'd probably drive them both to SLC himself.

Belly's contract is not guaranteed for 20-21 and while he's having a solid year I don't see him in Sac's long term plans. Jazz will probably have yet another chance to pick him up.

I've watched a lot of Belly over the past couple years - folks should be aware that his defense is maybe a notch or two above Georges - that is to say very, very bad.

He's above average in everything else though.
