I know there's another thread mentioning his death, but reading through it, there's some disrespectful things said on there too. I want a nothin' but love for Kobe thread, by the Jazzfanz. I think the right thing to do is for BASKETBALL FANS to share their Kobe moments and keepin it respectful for him. You may not have liked him, but you had to respect him.

Kobe is a true legend. As a fan of basketball for the over the last 30 years, I have never seen anyone like Kobe Bryant. I still feel Jordan was the best to ever play, but I mean as far as on and off the court, I have to give it to Kobe.
When he played the game, he did it in a fashion where you had no choice but to respect the player. When he was off the court, he lived his life in a fashion where you had no choice but to respect the man.
If you love basketball, you loved Kobe. He had a fire that you hardly ever see players enter the league with and then maintain it throughout the career. I can't imagine what his family is going through with the loss of Kobe and to make it worse, they also lost 13 year old Gigi.
I can't imagine the pain the other families of the other 7 victims are going through. This is so tragic, I was lost for words. Even being a Jazz fan, I'm a fan of basketball first and Kobe has been apart of many lives through his 20 year career and he was doing amazing things in his retirement as well. Watching his 60 point performance he dropped on us for his last game was bitter sweet. There was nothing that we could've done to stop Kobe that night.
I found an older video on Kobe highlights VS. Utah. There's a lot that's missing but it was all I could find. I would love to see more love an appreciation for Kobe on this thread, with zero negative posted.

Death is a serious matter and should be treated with respect, of course, but that doesn't change the fact that Bryant was highly overrated. For instance, he shot bellow league average through his career and yet took so many shots that his usage is the third highest ever, behind only Jordan's and Westbrook's. Being a ballhog is not smart basketball! "Oh... but Kobe was all too human! He just wanted to win! He wanted it so badly!", one might say. Perhaps so, but being a ballhog still is not smart basketball. Also, Bryant amassed all-defensive first team nods when he was clearly not interested in defense -- let's say, from 2006 onwards. The truth is that, after Jordan left, the NBA needed someone to be the face of the league and he was the only one who was carismatic enough and sufficiently dominant to do so. Thus, the league's propaganda machine promoted Bryant non-stop -- the same way it promotes Lebron James nowadays. The result was a global impact. Many of today's stars grew up idolizing Bryant -- who was perhaps only slightly better than, let's say, Clyde Drexler -- thinking of him as a great hero and one of the greatest players ever, while advanced stats clearly deny that. Clearly! On the other hand, despite not always playing smart basketball, Bryant seemed to be one of the most (if not the most) dedicated player ever to his craft, to honing his skills. That, I think, should be his legacy: even if you don't have what Mike had to begin with you can get close to being Mike, you can even outscore Mike, if you work hard enough.

You absolutely don't get it. I'm a Jordan fan, started watching in the 80's. I'm also a Jazz fan, as well as a fan of the NBA. I made this post as a fan of the NBA. I made this Thread to honor Kobe and made it pretty clear, that negativity and disrespect wasn't welcomed in this thread. It didn't take you long. But then again nobody has ever mistaken you for an intellectual.
I think that drawing instructions using crayon's may be the only way you'll comprehend this, but I'm not going to do that. Even then, I'm not confident that you have the mental capacity to follow suit. Have respect for Kobe under this thread and Keep your negative opinions to yourself! How stupid was your parents that failed so badly, they succeeded at nothing with you. And if they don't succeed than what did they do? Even something as little as respect for the dead, they couldn't even get that right with you. Your mother never paid enough attention to be proud at anything that you have said or done. And if she did, you would fail her to this day.

Well... I think you should really work on your textual criticism. I just put Bryant's career in perspective. I actually think Bryant had a great career and was a great overachiever. He just wasn't the basketball god that the NBA propaganda machine made people believe that he was. He was the face of the league for a few years, but simply wasn't really dominant or even near dominant. As far as the personal stuff, I started following the NBA in the early 90s, so I was able to follow both Jordan's and Bryant's careers, as you did. If you can allege having a long term perspective, I can too. Besides, my PhD in History probably makes putting things in perspective a little easier for me, although I really don't know your background or formation. Regarding myself being "mistaken for an intellectual", as you put it, people actually take me as an intellectual. After all, Portuguese is my native tongue but I've been published in Italian and I'm obviously fluent in English. But not only in English, of course! In Spanish also. And I can read some Catalan and French, besides a bit of Romanian and Ancient Greek. I'm also a published Latin translator and editor of Medieval Latin manuscripts. I taught Ancient History, Medieval History, Latin and African History at the university level. But then, again, I don't know your personal intellectual accomplishments. Perhaps you are an accomplished intellectual yourself! I know I am! And I'm quite proud of it, TBH. Regarding my alleged lack of respect for the dead, my mother passed away last year, but, for almost a year, I stopped working so I could be with her. It was not by chance that I said that death was a serious matter. To me, it is. You, on the other hand, seem somewhat caught in the media machine that glorifies celebrities, especially the dead ones, if I can be frank. But I can be wrong about you, of course! This doesn't change the fact that Bryant had the third highest usage rate ever while shooting bellow NBA average through his career. He was indeed a ballhog. He overachieved, he had a great career but was a ballhog. Finally, I let you with my best regards and express my genuine hope that you recover your mental balance after the initial shock of Bryant's dead has finally passed. Be well!

Right or not, you came and crapped on this thread when you were specifically asked not to. What you did was pretty tacky. The guy just died in a helicopter crash with his 13-year-old daughter and 7 other people. This is called having situational awareness. *facepalm*
 
Koby ****ed up the Jazz most of his career so there was some natural hatred for the Lakers. But I still liked him and had a poster on my wall growing up. Unfortunately I threw away my old Kobe shoes a few weeks ago. Anytime I log on to Twitter I realize this **** is actually real.

I get your point, but even if my tact regarding the death of a celebrity was somewhat lacking, that is still no excuse for the tread-creator name-calling. Besides, death itself should not be used as a tool to aggrandize people's reputation. As a basketball player, Bryant was indeed a ballhog. I know I may sound harsh, but him having died in an helicopter accident, from a stroke or brain cancer doesn't make any difference whatsoever, as dying three days ago instead of three years ago doesn't either. He was who he was! Actually, people deliberately trying to talk only about the positive aspects of his life or his career is not truly a sign of admiration. After all, when you truly embrace someone, when you truly love and admire someone, you don't choose "this part of him/her I love and that other one I despise". A true celebration of Bryant's career should include tales about the days he didn't pass the ball to anyone, days in which he failed because of it, days in which he surprinsingly and somewhat heroicaly succeed while doing so. Talking just about the good moments is not only farcical, but also somewhat naive, I think.

We're so proud of your accomplishments, and you mother must be just as proud. I had no idea that someone like yourself (who is published in as many languages) uses abbreviations like "TBH" and misspells "ballhog twice and forgets the comma between 90's. Normally I wouldn't care, or pay any attention. But I'm obviously in the presence of a delicate genius such as yourself. With all of those accolades, one would think that your posts would be free of spelling errors. Not to mention, you never separated your paragraph's. You don't even have a paragraph. Just a block of loneliness and despair.
I'm still curious why you mastered Latin at a university level, seeing that there are zero countries that speak it. Kind of seems like a waste of your families money and a huge waste of your time. Also I wish you the best on your journey of being a "published Latin translator". I know there's a huge market for translators of a language that hasn't been spoken in year. And to be published in that field, wow, that's just an accomplishment that makes so much sense, I'm overwhelmed with feelings of joy for you. Congratulations studying and teaching the language that nobody speaks anymore.
My only professional accolades that have a chance of topping yours, is...... I don't live with my mother or my sex robot. I take care of a family of people that are real. I only speak 2 languages, and I run a successful company that I'd love to tell you about, but I'll refrain, because I would hate for my reality to merge with your fantasy where your speaking a language that nobody speaks into a room of imaginary friends and your trusty sex robot. You're nothing more than an ineffectual debutante. Congratulations on your teaching of a language that nobody has spoken in years. I'm sure students are lined up to hear you vomit out of your mouth.
 
People that say athletes weren’t as good because of stats alone don’t know what they are talking about. I watched Kobe with my own damn eyes, and they told be he’s one of the greats of the game, a legend, and one of the great competitors not just in basketball but sports history.

to say he was used as a hype machine by the nba is absolutely one of the most ridiculous things ever written. The dude won a shot ton of chips, with and without Shaq, and one of the greatest closers of all time, and I don’t get where that idiot says Kobe was disinterested in defense, again I relied on my eyes to come up with my own analysis. He was a hell of a defender.
