Jazz throttle the Spurs at their place game thread

Mitchell with 31 pts.
Clarkson with 20 pts. on efficiency as good as you'll ever get from him.
Bogey with 17/9/4.
Rudy with 17/19.

Jazz scored 120 pts. They just couldn't get stops. Plain and simple. I don't like that we gave DeDrozan 19 FTAs.

Officially not holding my breath on the Mike Conley experiment. To some degree I understood the principle of picking him up. In the NBA you just don't have credibility as a contender until you have your star and Mike ostensibly had that caché but he simply has not been as advertised. Just utterly unacceptable.

Coming from someones who's actually reffed a high school game I can tell you a missed call can dramatically change a game. If you really wanted to control a game you could call twice as many fouls on a team you want to win. It's actually an art form for some refs. The 4th foul on Gobert was a prime example.

You mean calling a fourth foul on the our best player for a touch foul and the guy got the rebound anyway is bad... but what if the Jakob was also being extremely physical on screens and defending the rim and walked away from the game with only two fouls?

It was inconsistent and uneven. Quin should have lost his ****. Hell on one play one spur knocked it out off another spur and they were like... ****... IDK... jump all I guess.

Guys... I think it’s time to call a spade a spade... he’s not a borderline all star... he’s not even playing like a good starter level pg... I think he racked up some big stats on a ****** team where he had the ball a lot and had no pressure to win... he can still help us but we got bamboozled.

He was an all star caliber player. Probably not anymore. Not at this point in his career, and not in this system. But he raises the ceiling if he plays well and start feeling comfortable. We don't need him to average 20ppg. Just be more like himself.

And BTW, I was correcting natebooz false claim that Conley's had the same roster last year.

Are you making a point about how much he should play based on how much he makes?

A bit yes. We can't get out of his contract, and I don't see any way he opts out, so if we're gonna end up paying Conley 32 Mil. next season we might as well try to get him back to being an all-star level player right?

In the Houston game I actually thought they were way more aggressive driving to the basket... there were some bad calls but it felt like we also just grabbed and did dumb stuff.

Tonight they called a ton of touch fouls on us... while JC and DM went hard to the basket with nothing... well most of the time nothing.

Everything was an offensive foul as well.

Ahhh... look I’m in a mood... gonna go yell at some ****ing clouds

No worries.

Bruh then you ain’t watching... Rudy Gay has his whole arm draped over DMs body/shoulder... he brings his arm up to shoot and it removes said arm in the process and they call a foul on DM... those types of calls are huge swings... should be two free throws instead it’s a turnover... the JC baseline drive offensive foul was garbage... can’t take a charge running along side a guy like that and there was very little contact... those are almost always called fouls on the defender... there was three in a short time that helped neuter us... we also had some errors for sure... they also made 400 contested mid range shots...

I think one of the big takeaways is that people have figured out we can’t take advantage on 5 out scenarios... TB has to punish them for going small and he didn’t... can’t have him out there if he can’t get to the offensive glass on 5 out lineups.

Oh. I’ve been watching the game. And the fact that jazz fans were already whining about the refs (not the poor play of our team) early in the 2nd qtr after Rudy committed two straight boneheaded fouls is pretty laughable to me. We played like crap. We’re not going to beat many playoff teams playing the way we did against Houston and San Antonio.

A bonafide star as he was considered shouldn’t have to be “brought back” to being an all-star level player in the 1st place.

I’m not sure if he can really help us honestly. Have there been any games where he’s started/played big mins and we wouldn’t have won had Mudiay/Clarkson been given his mins? I’m at the point now where I seriously wonder if we’d miss him if he and Mudiay switched roles.

I don't believe he is a bonafide star and saying he is an all-star level player was probably too much, but there is no doubt that he is a better player than Mudiay (I love Mudiay at his cost BTW) and we should try to get him back to his Memphis level.
