LHM company layoffs

Honestly the "cure" (flattening the curve due to shutting things down) might be worse than the disease.

If the economy go to total **** there might be way more deaths than the virus causes and the deaths might be way more horrific (families murdered in their own homes by people desperate for food etc)

I'm trying to recall which left winger on this board was lecturing me that Trump was actually endorsing death panels when he said this same thing. The fact is, both you and Trump are correct about this. There is a point where the cure is worse than the disease. I guarantee you there is not a member of my family who does not feel that way about the chemotherapy my mom underwent. It may have allowed her to live a little longer, but it absolutely destroyed her in the process. I believe we are currently doing something very similar to our economy.

The economic shutdown can't last too much longer. People won't stand for it. Social distancing to the extent possible will continue, but at some point, people will demand the right to provide for themselves.

Well, sure, indecisive half measures will do that. It’s been three weeks+ since it was obvious it was starting to get really bad. Shut down then for two weeks. National lockdown. All flights canceled. All cruises canceled. Be vigilant about it. National guard. Etc. Contain the **** out of it. And test, test, test that whole time. Do that for two weeks, maybe three, and you can probably restart society fairly normally, with protocols in place. But yeah, you’re right we can’t last forever with this, “Hey guys we sort of should stay at home, guise,” retard-talk that is Trump’s native language. This is going to go on for months upon months. Possibly into 2021.

The hammer and dance. It is how a Stanford professor descibes governance in a pandemic.

If the hammer is too hard a society risks civil unrest or self destruction. Too soft and the pandemic spreads. The hammer is a one time event.

The dance is everything that Government does afterwards. It is fluid, gliding from one movement to the next, adjusting to the music and the dancers and continuing without stopping even when a mistake is made.

It was going to be some president's misfortune to be in charge when a pandemic struck in the age of globalism. I fear as a society we will fail to learn all that we could from this one because Trump is a convenient excuse for everyone.

Except we should be able to learn.

Let’s think about this. Going forward, the CDC funding matters. Having a strategic plan in place for quick (24-72 hours upon notifying them) placement of National Guard and Army Corp of Engineers members if needed in coordination with local, county and state officials including police officers, politicians and health officers, amongst perhaps others. Having a stimulus check plan already in place (sorry but two people still working should not get one at all though they could later for people who subsequently are laid off)...most of this stuff I assume was already in place and Trump just ignored or decided to rip up the playbook on the sidelines jay before kickoff. You can’t make this stuff up. And more should be in place. 1B spent on ventilators at cost or close to cost because **** the private whores, they’re for a ****ing pandemic. Other **** like that. Whatevs. I’m over it.

It's more difficult than you are making it out to be. Trump can't make the states shut down. That's part of our constitution. Also, the states with slow developments of the virus have been allowed to run in the meantime. People have been able to make money.

For example, I'm in TN. My wife has been able to keep working these last couple weeks. Had we shut down like NY, a lot of people in this area would be two weeks without a paycheck already. As a state, we would be much worse off.

This whole pandemic has so many more questions than answers especially when it comes to the economy. Expect the worst, hope for the best. Every unemployed person in the country is eligible for unemployment PLUS the stimulus money. Don't be too proud. Take them both and survive.

Obviously it’s more complex than I’m making it sound. Where in the Constitution does it say that? So far as your belief in how Tennessee has handled it, well, you’re wrong. You just are. And I’m too tired and don’t give a **** enough to explain to you why. But it takes pretty basic math and a pretty basic understanding of the virus.

There state rights and federal rights. Shutting down all commerce in a state is the call of the state.

And no, I'm not wrong. If TN completely shut down 2 weeks before it did, my family and others would be in a worse situation. You dont know my situation.

The blame game can be done later although nobody knew anything going into this. Experts have been baffled. The most baffling part of all of this will be restarting the economy.
