Wind in Utah

The Thriller

I haven’t seen this kind of wind in years. I guess that’s expected when the temp drops from 75 to 50 in two hours. Anyone else caught up in this storm?

It has died down in the Salt Lake Valley. I hear it's going to be the worst in Utah County and will last until about midnight. Winds up to 65mph.

We recently moved to Lehi. It’s been steady since about 5:00 pm. The gusts in the early evening were as strong as anything I can remember in years. It’s still strong even now at 10:30 pm.

It's terrible where I live. After the 3 days of straight wind we already had earlier this week, I'm so over it!

Agreed. I think yesterday was about the only day I can remember this week where we didn’t have wind. It’s been windy but very little rain

Where in Lehi? We’re on the west side a little closer to Saratoga. It’s been pretty bad. We just had a bunch of trees planted today and they’re now going to need serious straightening.

It’s not just there. I’ve been saying for the last two months that it’s like we have 25-40mph winds two to three times a week now, I swear. And it’s been like that for at least six months...maybe 8-10.

I recently bought an inflatable boat and have been wanting to take it out on the water but haven't been able to due to it being windy everytime I have a day off.
First world problems.

Sucks for everyone camping on memorial day weekend I'm sure

That’s called a raft.

Joking, what’s your inflatable boat look like.
Pretty nice boat for less than 200 bucks. Maximum weight capacity is 1300 lbs. 12 feet by 5 feet. 4 fishing pole holders. Can put a motor on it.

I built a carpeted plywood floor for it to so I can stand in it or set up chairs in it. Might end up mounting some swivel fishing chairs in it.

Just sold my 4 man Intex inflatable. How I hated that thing. Would have made a better sail boat than raft with how the wind took it. Then when I took it down the Provo river, one of the oars snapped in two.

Not great for Utah lakes because it's often windy. It's an elevated desert here.

A motor and/or beefed up oars to go with that is my recommendation. And a good anchor.

I got the anchor already and the hardwood floor. Now I just need the motor.
But the lakes I will use it on are pretty calm usually (high uinta lakes, Payson lakes, causey, etc)

Nice! We live on the east side. Not far from skyridge high school. Although, we have family who live near the Thanksgiving golf course. We actually lived with them for about 7 months and really liked that area. It’s close to the freeway, good restaurants, and I love the jordan river trail. And it’s about to get a lot better. I heard those mink farms are going away. Finally!

One thing I noticed was the constant wind coming off the point of the mountain. It helps to cool things off at night. But it seems like when storms roll through, the wind is much stronger through that area as the point and oquirrh mountains seem to funnel the wind to utah county through that area. Lots of nice new homes going up in that area. It’ll be nice once they have all of this I-15 construction done. The thanksgiving point exit to Lehi main will be nice it’s all done. Soon Saratoga and Lehi will be one large city.

I was expecting to see damage in the neighborhood. All I saw were bent trees and garbage all over. Lol. I haven’t seen wind like that in years.

That’s funny. My parents live right by the golf course and when we moved back from Texas three years ago, our house was under construction and we were there for 7 months, too. The traffic there is awful, though. You won’t get out of those neighborhoods during rush hour, yet the city doesn’t seem to care and has most recently come up with this laughable idea of getting rid of the golf course and creating like an 18k city, but had no infrastructure plans to pair with it.

The people in that area complained about the mink farms going away and being replaced with more houses/commercial. They'd rather live in that stink, I guess?

I knew a guy who was staying in that area and having visited a couple times and smelled the mink farms I can't imagine wanting that to stay over more homes and shopping options to go along with what will certainly be higher property values.
