What's The Last Movie You’ve Seen?

Watched JoJo Rabbit. It was more dark than expected, it has its share of goofiness but there is also a lot of drama. Which is hard to do, at times it does feel uneven and I did find myself bored. But the heart of it - Scarjo and the kid relationship worked pretty well..better than Waititi as Hitler which just felt off the minute you see him.

I recently saw this as well, and I also got bored at times. I didn't love it as much as others I know, but it had its interesting moments.

Finally got around to Uncut Gems last night. Was good, definitely overhyped though. Sandler was excellent, KG was surprisingly good. He has a future as an actor. But just wasn’t as great as I’d heard. Hearing too many plot points during podcasts and such probably played a part in that though.

Definitely steals from the Departed too.

6.5/10

God I hated that movie, the whole betting thing was so dumb, she just plops all the money on the desk and they just accept it no questions asked. honestly surprised KG agreed to it and the gem that they are all creaming in their pants over is really stupid looking.

Had fun with this one, I really like Stephen Lang, he's one of those actors that just seems to get better with age. This movie kind of goes what you expect as a 80's homage - it has lots of really amazing practical effects. Seeing all these old action stars together is great. If there is a complaint is there isn't a good villain to really balance it, he's really forgettable. And coming off of Bliss I expected more from Dora Madison in this, her role in this just never seems to come together., but she does have at least one cool moment ha. Overall yeah I enjoyed it.

Wow this was better than I expected. Was thoroughly entertained throughout. Really fast paced and didn't know what was going to happen next. Just had a energy to it, reminded me of the raid movies.

ha ha serisosly. That wasn't even a cool looking gem, looked like some bull **** I'd find out at topaz mountain. I guess Embiid was supposed to play that part but delays and such got in the way of his schedule and it fell to KG.

That being said, I thought KG did a really good job. Like he was a good actor. His part was dumb and the gem was dumb and there is no reason Sandler shouldn't have sold it to him the first time they met but still, he did a good job. Embiid would have made more sense though. Like on just an african level.

Steals from The Departed?

Steals from The Departed?
Lol at liking The Wolfman which was a joke and criticizing Uncut Gems. Just ****ing stop.

Who's the Wolfman? Michael J Fox? And yeah the last scene is a straight up rip off of the Departed. Which I'm sure is a straight up rip off of something else. Which is a rip off of something else and so on and so forth.

It wasn't a great movie, a good one, but not a great one. Shouldn't have been anywhere near an oscar, and I saw a lot of stuff saying it was snubbed.

So someone getting shot in the head is a rip-off of The Departed? Lmao.

I didn’t think it was snubbed but it was certainly one of the better films of the year and not far from being a nominee. Two things could’ve gotten it a nominee imo: 1) As excellent as Sandler was, he fell a bit flat in the most emotional of scenes when he broke down in his office. It felt contrived and was mediocre acting there. Had he knocked that scene out of the park for 20 seconds, it would’ve been a wow. 2) The bet. It wasn’t stupid that the teller just took the cash like @prodigy said. In fact, she clearly called over her boss prior to actually okaying the wager. What was dumb was the bet itself. You could probably get some casino somewhere to place that bet but I doubt it would be Mohegan Sun and more importantly no serious wagerer, addict or not, is going to put the tip-off as one of the six legs of a $25,000 parlay. That’s ****ing retarded. It doesn’t emphasize his addiction or how on tilt he is though maybe that’s what the Bro directors were going for. It simply feels off. Now had they inserted a 15-20 second scene where somebody questions that leg of the parlay and Sandler says how Garnett wins 68% of his tips and the Sixer dude only wins like 39%, then I could’ve bought it. But they didn’t write that in.

Forget if I put this. Watched The Peanut Butter Falcon. Mel Griffith’s daughter was actually damn good in it. Lebeouf was solid. Nice, little movie.

This morning I watched Hereditary. Really liked it a lot. I recall @fishonjazz and a few others here semi-raving about it and in general, I agree. Really good film. I like the first half more. Damn good though.

The Double Life of Veronique (1991) This french/polish film is nothing short of brilliant! ez 10/10. Dramas are something I consider myself a very tough grader on, because often dramas(and their characters) bore me and are dumbed-down and placate the audience with a bunch of predictable feel good ****... The good ones, like this(and mulholland drive), are few and far between..

Definitely not something you want to view if your distracted, you wont be able to track the story..

The lead actress does such a great job.. It's really well made too, gorgeous photography throughout.. theres like this crazy sort of color palate going on.. It's very red and very green...

The director made something called The Three Colors Trilogy, which I saw before this and really really liked. To me, these are worth seeing just for the level of craftsmanship alone.
