Jazz need internal growth

Holly **** that article was unbearable! First off he must be the only person in the world who thinks the jazz are trying to compete next year and needs to add vets. Second favors can not play the three. Lastly, memo is NOT our leader.

Agree with all three points. Not sure what a holly tree has to do with anything though.

Time to take ol' Memo out behind the woodshed and put him down.

I love the guy. He was slow but had his place on our team. Now he's slower and has no place on this team. It's just fact.

The article was pretty ridiculous. I think a leader will emerge once the team starts playing together. Besides, the coach can be the leader and the players can follow him. I agree that the Jazz need a backup PG if Watson doesn't return. I do not want Price back because he isn't a PG. He is an undersized shooting guard. I think a trade will eventually happen if Okur comes back healthy because the front court is loaded with players. If Kanter is ready to contribute a trade is even more likely. I think Bell is done and should be traded in a package with a bigger trade. I think the Jazz will be fine once the young guys get experience then you make a decision to add a veteran if there is a hole to fill. It is not time to panic and make a bad trade especially since we haven't even seen if our veterans have improved and our young guys are ready to play.

I highly doubt AK was ever a leader. I am not saying he is a bad guy but he seemed very disinterested in leading the team.

I think Memo is going to retire after giving it a go and realizing he can't do it anymore. I think the natural leader of this team is Millsap. But his credit will be undercut once he coming off the bench again.

I don't think this team has a leader, per se. I'm not even certain it has a clear identity (specialty that defines the team, that is). It may take another couple of years of building, assembling the pieces, and overall team maturity to find who these things.

The team's identity was Jerry Sloan, even during the Stock-Malone years -- did you ever see Stockton call out plays like DWill? DWill undercut that because of his forceful, abrasive personality. When Jerry was younger, I think the Jazz would've traded DWill much sooner, but Jerry was tired by the time DWill came to the Jazz and was content to let Dwill take a bigger leadership role. Now the Jazz have lost their identity and it's up to Corbin to establish one.

Great post.

The article was pretty bad. About the only part that made any sense was saying the Jazz may choose to do nothing this season in terms of FA's. Re-sign Watson and I think the team is pretty much set, outside of perhaps getting another wing for the vet minimum.

I agree the team has a leadership vacuum. I think Harris will step up a bit; as the PG, he has to. Hayward probably becomes a bit more vocal, especially if his play continues to improve. And I do think Raja can be a leader, even if he's only playing 10 mins/per.

Leader = Hayward. He is practicing leadership by playing Starcraft II non-stop. He is learning how to effectively command troops to victory!!!

At this point, the only thing resembling a leader of the young core is Hayward. Dude's got intangibles up the ***, has been a winner, and is not a contentious person. The Jazz still need an ******* on the team, but I think Hayward will serve as a nice yang regardless.

Outside of the young core, I think it's just a matter of Price is Right. Even though I think the Jazz should keep Millsap since they probably won't get anything nicer than he is in a deal and also a great person to have in your locker room AND on the floor.

"that Raja Bell recovers from the injuries that plagued him last season and takes on a larger role as well"

i don't know many jazz fans that wish raja to have a larger role on the team

I'm pretty sure he just got it backwards. Hopefully he'll recover from his role that plagued the Jazz last year, and his injuries become larger.

Too much talk about our players.

What about coaching staff?

IMO, the coaching staff is the biggest question mark right now. they're much more unproven than our pretty green roster.

is Corbin and co capable to developing this team? Are they skilled enough to outcoach the other more experienced coaching staffs in this league? Will they take us to the playoffs and further?

We'll see...

Harris and Watson would probably be a Top 10 PG combo in the league. Between the two they should get beyond adequate production from that spot. Chris Paul and Jarrett Jack are probably the best PG start-bench combo, but Harris-Watson isn't so bad.

Memo should come back strong, and i would insert him back in the starting line-up. Memo and Jefferson is what the starting unit should have been last year and it should be this season 9whenever there may be a season). If Memo starts than Millsap cannot say anything about moving back to the bench... and becoming 6th man of the year.

I think we will need Raja next season. I think it's going to be awhile before Burks can contribute (especially with no pre season or training camp). That is of course assuming there is a season. If the season started on time, I would guess it would be Feb before Burks saw any real time, kind of like Hayward last year.

Who exactly is Burks competing with for playing time? Miles and Hayward will probably start, that leaves Bell and Burks to come off the bench on the wings. There's no one else. He'll get playing time, and I'll be very surprised if he isn't more productive than Bell by week 3 of the season.
