Game Thread Aug 21, 2020: Jazz vs. Nuggets - Game 3

Added to Calendar: 08-21-20

Jazz have completely shut down the paint for the Nuggets. When Jokic gets the ball low, they send another player to crowd his passing lanes and make life hard. he is settling for jumpshots and seems to have no fire left. Nuggets kinda suck without him effectively moving the ball from the post. Not sure Malone can fix that in two days with the squad they have.

The Jazz are knocking down shots now. It is making the game look easy. If a lid goes on the basket for awhile, buckle up.

At one point Malone had all 10 fingers pointed to the sky looking for help.
That was fairly early in the game too. It didn't work - the jazz proceeded to hit consecutive three's right after.

It was one of those games where you go from excited about your team to embarrassed for your opponent real quick. I wonder what they are going to try different in the next game defensively to try to slow the jazz.

Not really seeing an adjustment Denver can make. We’ll cool off shooting, but we still would’ve spanked them with average shooting the last two games.

Hope the guys stay motivated. We feel like such the better team and should roll. Yet we’re one game from being 2-2.

Agreed. I think they really miss their main threat from downtown Gary Harris. He always seems to go off against us. Having said that, Bojan’s absence is Pretty big for us.

We’ve gotta keep driving. They either leave rudy wide open or leave our shooters open. As long as we keep the pressure on by driving and looking for A lob to gobert, this will be over in 5. Even without home court advantage...

I was surprised d they didn’t at least try a zone. Especially in that 2nd quarter when it was a Gobert Dunk Show. I wouldn’t expect a zone to stifle us for long. But at least it could slow the P&R down. I’d also trap the guard off the P&R to stop easy drives. Force the guard to give it up earlier. Gobert is much less effective when he’s passed the ball at the free throw line than at the rim. If you let our guards into the paint it’s either an easy shot for them, a wide open 3 for the wing, or a lob to Gobert.

Colney and Niang shot lights out. Rudy is a beast. And we won the turnover battle which doesn't tend to happen.

If we win in similar fashion on Sunday then Denver will pack it in and book their flights to Cancun.

We've basically made Porter and Jokic unplayable with how terrible they're defending. Both of their defensive ratings the last two games have been sky high. I don't know how Denver counters that. Maybe they try to go bigger? Seems like we have enough playmakers to make that a bad idea.
