What's new

Players only meeting.

Being called White Chocolate isn't the same thing as Harrell calling Luka a "bitch *** white boy".

You got that name out of respect. Harrell was calling Luka that because he physically outmatched Luka on the play. He was calling Luka inferior because of his weakness. Some would say he called him weak because his race. I'm not here to make that call.

Harrell apologized because what he said was very wrong. I'm glad he did and I'm glad Luka accepted the apology.

Network execs are going to keep a bad cop from making bad actions? Please enlighten me on how.
This is your response? These are the people who need to understand there’s a problem. They have the power and prestige to affect change at a government and political level.

c’mon LoPo!! I know you’re smarter then some juvenile response like that.

It’s also comical the people who say just listen to the cops and obey orders. They are the same ones who won’t wear a mask because it’s infringing on their freedom. Just so stupid.

Lol that's a very good point. I'm using that in the future, thanks.

They are already getting action... its working. They can't fix individual scenarios but they can make some good things happen.

My point was simple. Quitting the season isn't going to make execs stop bad cops more than continuing the season.

Change comes from constant reminders that something is wrong. If the players abandon their spotlight by quitting the season, they miss numerous opportunities to continue a movement for change.

While I agree your ideas sound great, athletes already do a TON of those things and don't get any credit for it. For example, players in California pay just shy of 50% of their income in taxes. The highest non-entertainers pays about 30% effective tax rate. That means they are taxed much higher than any other employee in the country, and double what the owners of the NBA teams are taxed. They pay more into police training, education, etc than any of us do. To ask them to do more, when we won't, is very disingenuous and not fair to them at all.

I can see their point. Why should they do more when the people who can actually change things, the people who have influence in the communities (the owners), do not do more as well. The Millers have had laws changed for their economical benefit time and time again. They have had businesses that they compete with shut down to make their lives easier through legislation.

Why don't the Millers (and other owners) use their influence for change? And if they won't, why are they playing for them?

I'm sure not a shock to most, but just announced there are multiple sources indicating today's games will be postponed.

I think quitting on the season ultimately weakens their platform... I think threatening to quit the season will get immediate and serious action. Not that they were always bluffing but they need to have the serious conversations and are in a position to use their leverage. If both sides dug in and went to the bloody end I think that's a mistake, but this may be a huge win.

I fully support the fight for equality and justice. If the players want to use their platform to make a statement.. cool. Nothing but love and respect.

At the same time I feel like all this does in the end is hurt the NBA as a business and hurt the vast majority of fans who are not racist and just want to watch a game they enjoy.

The people who need to change are not going to change because the NBA shutdown for a day, 3 weeks or 30 years. They don't give a damn. It's like me boycotting work to get a supermodel who doesn't know who the f*** I am to marry me.
I agree. The players know that their talking hasn't done much of anything. They also know that the owners usually hold significant political clout and if they hurt the owners, the owners might put political pressure on the politicians they own to make changes.

I know the Millers are not cash rich. They can't survive long term without the cash influx the NBA gives them. When they lose a season, they lose a ton and it hurts them.

I don't understand why we don't see body cam footage the same day that the shooting happened.
Maybe it's because it would make the police look bad. I'm sure if the body cam footage were to show the shooting was justified then it would be released immediately.

It's because this specific police department doesn't have body cameras. Which is its own set of problems.

I would guess that people who are just ordinary good hard working people will turn the channel and probably never go to any live games in the future.
It's kinda like all of the "peaceful protests" kinda like ******** the bed and then having to sleep in it. the silent majority will make the biggest statement in the end because they are just flat out sick of all of this and covid.
Huh. Weird way to phrase this. "ordinary, good hard working people". So, people who care about racism aren't that? That in order to be a good person, you must not care about a portion of our population who is being unlawfully murdered with no recourse?

If this is the silent majority....then god damn, I am glad I'm not a "good hard working person". smh.

C'mon. You seriously think there are gonna be riots from Republicans? Seriously? The closest thing to a right protest was some people standing on the courthouse steps in Minnesota looking like morons holding their guns and stuff.

If Biden wins, there won't be protests. If Trump wins, cities will burn like they are now.

I can't believe these guys are our only options.

Who murdered who the last three days?

What the hell? The 3 likes on this post are from one brow, cy, and hekate? Doesn't add up.

This Chris dude called numberica a bitch for supporting the fact that they players want to use their power to enact change and those 3 posters "liked" it? Weird.

You must not have the new like features on the app. We all "disliked" it. You can do like 7 reactions now.

Antifa isn't an organized group that acts the same. It's an idea to oppose fascism even if you have to physically. Some small groups have organized but not much.

Yeah, anyone who believes antifa (which means anti-fascism, which is what this country stands for) is any sort of organized threat...it either grossly misinformed or willfully ignorant and immediately loses all credibility.
