Gentlemen Broncos

No, Broncos not Air Bender. I was just saying they are both terrible, but I can see your confusion because a) there's legitimate confusion going on b) you're stupid and c) Last Air Bender and Gentlemen Bronco have not been seen by many due to their terribleness.

That's not very nice.

Never seen it. Nacho Libre was so awful I pretty much have no interest in seeing anymore of this guys films. Look, even Napoleon Dynamite is stupid. Don't get me wrong, it's fun to quote the movie and what not, but it's one of those rare films where talking about the movie is actually more funny than the movie itself.

Nacho Libre is actually among the top 15 comedies ever made. This is in the top 5. Sounds like you aren't a fan of comedy though.

The stupid thing for me is this movie feels so damn familiar. It's easy for me to get a kick out of this movie that I don't think a lot of other people would share.

The fact that you have Libre among the top 15 comedies ever made is proof enough that your taste in comedy is amazingly awful.

I could also name 100 comedies better than Napoleon Dynamite in my sleep. To put it in the top 5 is just, well, retarded.

This.

Instead of getting into a pissing match, can those who have seen it and dislike it cite an example. Perhaps a few scenes and your interpretation of the comedy. I'd be happy to describe some of my favorite scenes and why they made me laugh until I was sore.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Instead of giving you a scene-by-scene breakdown of Napoleon Dynamite, let me give you a quick overview of the entire movie and why I don't think it's deserves "Top 5 Comedy Of All Time" status.

First and foremost, let me say that I'm not trying to say that it's not an enjoyable comedy because I've seen it a few times and have laughed each time. But that's a far cry from having it be worthy of top 5 status. I guess if you love seeing a semi-retarded redhead fling food at a llama while spouting dialouge that most 12 year olds could have written, then yes, it's the greatest movie ever in your eyes and anything else I say probably won't make a difference to you.

I realize most of the movie's charm is in fact just how stupid it is and how juvenile and off-kilter the dialouge is, but you're gonna need more than that to sell it as one of the Top 5 of all time. "The Jerk", and "Dumb and Dumber" were movies that were also made with a certain type of intentional idocy in mind and are light years ahead in terms of quality. Like ND, those movies were made to be intentionally goofy/stupid, yet the dialouge, set-ups, story lines, and charachter development go far beyond anything that ND has to offer.

I hear you. But I was talking about Gentlemen Broncos as a personal top 5 comedy. Not Napoleon Dynamite.

For the record here Coming to America, Burn After Reading, Revenge of the Nerds and Caddyshack round out my top 5.

The 2 seasons of Da Ali G show aired on HBO has made me laugh harder than anything else, ever -but isn't eligible for top comedy movies ever. Movies like Airplane, Dirty Work, Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, Hamlet 2, Happy Gilmore, The Man Who Knew Too Little, I Heart Huckabees and Freddy Got Fingered also crack my top 20. I'm sure I've left some out.

I'd like to hear your overview of Broncos or what you thought failed about it though.

My bro-in-law loved Napoleon Dynamite, but for a specific reason. He actually taught high school in that exact school where the movie is set in Idaho. He said they nailed the local community dead-on and he laughs his head off all the time. He said every other grade/class had a napoleon dynamite kid in it. He said he thinks the karate school is exactly the same one that is really in the town, etc.

I still don't get anywhere near that level of humor out of it, but I have a different frame of reference. But I can say I appreciate ND more having watched it with my b-i-l.

That said, we have decidedly different tastes in comedies. I thought ND was meh. Nacho Libre was worse than bad. I did not laugh one time and neither did any of the people we watched it with (DVD party one weekend). We actually took it out after about 45 minutes as it was going nowhwere. Burn After Reading was a colossal waste of time, 2 hours and 25 bucks (tickets and snacks) I will never get back.

If Broncos is in the same vein, I will skip it.

My bad, I thought you were refering to ND as a top 5. I've never seen Gentleman Broncos. I just can't bring myself to watch it after the abortion that was Nacho Libre. I forget the guys name who's made all 3 movies but he strikes me to be somewhat of a 1-hit wonder IMO. He caught lightening in bottle with Napoleon Dynamite and will probably keep making bad movies until he fades away.

It other words, he's the Vanilla Ice of the film industry.

His name is Jared Hess. He also made some videos for the Utah State Fair, but they got pulled because they were considered to be in bad taste.
