Game Thread August 30, 2020: Nuggets at Jazz - Game 6

Added to Calendar: 08-30-20

Jazz dug their grave when they extended Ingles till the age of 35, bogey till the age of 34, and traded for a 32 yr old Conley. We had a 22 year old superstar and... we went and got older? It was asinine. What the **** were Lindsay and Snyder thinking?

Look at what Denver did. They aligned the roster age to Jokic and Murray. Look at all of these young teams. And here we are peddling out unathletic old players.

Two questions.

1. A healthy Jazz team last year, with Favors, Rubio, and Crowder, what would this series be?

2. A healthy Bojan, what would this series be?

Maybe 3 questions actually.

I miss Rubio. I wish we could have seen this team with Bojan instead of Favors, but keeping Rubio instead of Conley. I think that is a much better balance of Offense / Defense with enough shooting. Rubio definitely wouldn't be letting Murray go off like this.

Does Niang have something on Snyder? No one in their right mind would play that bum in the fourth quarter of a playoff game.

It's because the Jazz have to get a ton of 3's up to win and with Ingles/Royce being scared to shoot, the Jazz need as many shooters on the court as possible so when Mitchell/Clarkson/Conley drive they have passing outlets that can actually put up a shot attempt.

You know Morgan should be getting those minutes.

Dude needs 20 minutes minimum in tomorrows game.

I don't know lmao. It's a trade off either way and I don't think it's very obvious which is the right choice.

The Jazz offense needs shooters to work and dudes like Ingles/Royce just arent shooting as much as they should be. Morgan's defense hasnt been anything special. His best attribute in the series has been 50/50 balls. It's that vs the offensive flow Niang brings to the game.

Win or lose I'm not sure what we do... some nominal bench improvements would help but we have some wonky things with the big pieces we have chosen to ride with. Ultimately not viewing DM as more of a pg is where we may have strayed.

Like, I love Juwan and think he's has potential, but he's shooting 11% from the field and 10% from 3 (1/8 with a lot of ugly misses).

He might be better in some instances than Niang, but I don't think it's some super obvious call. The Jazz have been winning games by overwhelming Denver with spacing and driving, not defense.

I wish he got more minutes during the regular season so he would be more acclimated to the PF offensive role in Utah's offense, but it is what it is.

Niang wasn't the issue last night. He just missed two shots at unfortunate times. He had one bad rebounding foul, but he was competing. Tony has given us a big fat zero. Niang's -19 had more to do with other guys than him. JC was -24 yeesh. It did suck that Niang missed one and Grant hit one in that sequence near the end of the game... if those things are flip flopped we are down 4 instead of down 10.

Rudy wasn't very good either. We broke away from the normal offensive game plan so he wasn't really in his element.

Yeah, if the argument is Morgan needs to get TB's 10 mpg, then sure. But even then I still worry about Denver just dominating the paint against us in that case. TB fugging sucks on offense, but he at least presents an obstacle to score over in the paint.

I think we should have built under the thinking that DM is more of a PG and we should get bigger guards and wings to pair with him. We are two small on the outside to build a dominant defense.
I mean, the Jazz got Bojan who isnt playing. Conley has been fugging amazing for us in this series.

The big issue (other than Bojan being injured) is that Jeff Green and Ed Davis absolutely busted. Getting Conley was absolutely 100% the right move even though they overpaid.

Conley hasn't played bad but he is far from "fugging amazing". or else he should be dropping 30+ and we'd have won G5 or G6.

It really does hurt that Ingles is having another horrendous shooting playoffs (outside of the 1st two games). I thought covid break might help him with fatigue from the season, but I guess he's is emotionally down in the dumps being away from his family. I think the lack of crowd motivation has hurt his game as well. Dude really thrives off the crowd, both talking **** to him and pumping him up.

He's a bigger traffic cone. I just think its a lot to ask JC, Niang, and TB to hold together in bench units. Morgan can't be plugged in now. I think Niang has been fine for the most part... don't want him out there in crunch time.

The dude is shooting 57% from the field and 61% 3 with incredible consistency through 4 games. He's doing exactly what he was brought to Utah to do. His TS% is 77.

Both Mitchell and Conley need to get at least ten 3PA's in game 7. Both dudes are just flames from 3 in this series.

I think we could have gotten a different guy and I am puzzled why we felt we needed a full fledged point guard next to DM.

Bojan being hurt sucks... and you are right the other moves bombed. I just wonder what we could have done had we viewed DM as a pg and focused on bringing either a big pg to play alongside him like Brogdon or getting a wing.

We also seem to lose Ingles when we play him with DM and Mike... size wise I think Joe makes more sense as a starter. Mike has been very good in the series but having him and DM puts us at a size disadvantage and Royce/Ingles are solid on defense but not good enough to make up for the size issues.
