What's new

Anybody else see this on social media?

Which are a bunch of reasons why I don’t see the Jazz trading him: it is just about impossible in my mind that he will return anything close to equal value.
It would be like when you trade Deron... you hope whatever young player and pick you get turn into something as good that maybe fits the timeline of the franchise or provides more future value.

The Bulls for Wendell Carter, #4, and OP Jr. is kind of the ceiling of what you could get imo... the Brooklyn packages are a pile of meh to me.

You’re not intrigued by LaVert? He and Donovan would be one helluva backcourt.

I’m not supporting any trade idea I’ve seen floated, btw. Rudy is probably #3 all-time jazzman for me.

The jazz usually draft players that I hate which has me worrying if we traded Rudy for picks.

Rudy on the Jazz - YES PLEASE. He's the anchor.

Rudy with a supermax on the Jazz for the next 4 years as he ages, with his numbers already starting to dip a bit. VERY NEGOTIABLE.

Zach Lavine is not the answer. How about Rudy for Brandon Ingram, Jaxson Hayes, and draft considerations (they have a million picks). Now we're talking. If you are trading away an All Star you had better get an All Star back and Ingram next to Donovan is a lot more intriguing to me than Lavine. Having said that, I don't think that the Pelicans would do that.

Not really. I think he's fine and will have a performance or two during the year that get people excited... then you look at his numbers and they are pretty bad. I don't think he cures what ails us.

Add in the injury issues and the fact he's a little older than people think and I'm just not sure why people get so hyped on him.

I'd probably prefer a guy like Josh Richardson to Caris for us... Caris does better with the ball in his hands but Josh does more of the dirty work... we have a lot of dirty work that needs to be done.

I guess I’ve seen an inordinate amount of his good games and my sample is all skewed.

NOLA probably wouldn't send us Ingram. They might offer Jrue, Jaxson Hayes and #13. That might be their best offer.

Here's one I could see potentially. Jazz would draft James Wiseman and Patrick Williams/Aaron Nesmith, while saving some money. Jazz would then sign Favors to a 2+1 deal.

Utah trades: Rudy Gobert, #23
Utah receives: #1, #13, James Johnson

New Orleans trades: #13, Jrue Holliday
New Orleans receives: Rudy Gobert, #23

Minnesota trades: #1, James Johnson
Minnesota receives: Jrue Holliday

There should only be 4 outcomes for Rudy in my opinion:

#1 he signs a fair contract extension ($30ish yearly max) and stays

#2 he doesn't sign an extension and leaves next summer

#3 he demands supermax or let's us know he might not stay long term so we trade him

#4 we sign him to something close to supermax

I want #1. #2 and #4 can't happen.

If something did happen I think Brooklyn would be the destination. The Jazz get one of their two starter quality centers (DeAndre Jordan or Jarret Allen) and the talented Caris Lavert. Brooklyn gets their big 3 for next year in Durant, Irving, and Gobert, pretty nasty.
Boo!! It is not the Jazz job to help the Nets win a championship.

Based on KD's comments on a pod with JJ Redick I do not think they will go after Rudy. Basically said those guys are easy to score on and said certain DPOY's get played off the floor in the playoffs (it was a direct shot at Rudy). He had some things to say about drop coverage and having one defensive scheme that I think are pertinent and we are seeing those limitations playing out.

I agree with him to a certain degree. And they have Allen who is a poor man's Rudy on a cheaper deal. Why pay $30 and assets for Rudy when you can pay $15 for Allen/Jordan and bring in another guy to diversify around KD and Kyrie?

I think the scheme can be adjusted to work better but I also think its a crutch for the perimeter guys and isn't something that can be replicated by other bigs super effectively. Ed couldn't do it at all... Tony leads the league in And 1s per 36 (not sure that is true...I'm exaggerating)... Even Favs had trouble with it for a year or two with Rudy off the court. I think Quin and Bud need to have variance in their systems and plan during the regular season for the playoffs. We've got the regular season success but need to play with things to prep for the playoffs.

I love that Nick Nurse tries some weird **** sometimes and isn't afraid to adjust rotations. Quin's a little too textbook/robotic at times.

we still owe a first to memphis. So we can't afford to lose Rudy and go full rebuild at this very moment. DM will want out if this happens

After analyzing the entire NBA, I dont know a single team in the NBA who is dying to give Rudy some massive deal. Just like I couldn't identify a single team willing to give up 2 first rounders for Conley.

Where does Rudy actually fit? Where else is he this important?
