Jazz select Udoka Azubuike with pick 27 & trade Tony Bradley + pick 38 to the Pistons

7’7” wingspan, 41 inch vertical, 270 and played his senior season at age 20. Four year college player and just turned 21 this fall. Okongwu and Udoka were both drafted to be rim running, rebounding, rim protectors. Udoka is better and only a year older. Bigger, longer, more athletic. Jazz got a guy at 27 who is better than the 6th pick in the draft,

And cannot share the floor with one of our franchise players and who will never be able to shoot, dribble, or pass a basketball.

Your comparison is awful because Okongwu actually has some skills.

I guarantee one of the guys that was left on the board is gonna make us sick in the coming years.

the problem is Hawks has John Collins who can pair with Okongwu at PF spot. He takes the load offensively while helps you with rebounding whenever your center goes out to challenge a shot. Our dropping big strategy is relying heavily on the center to take care of everything because well, we have no PF...

Huh? Can’t share the floor with Rudy? He wasn’t drafted to do that. He was drafted to be a backup to Rudy which the jazz desperately need. Stupid to say he can’t pass. As far as shooting and dribbling, Rudy can’t do those things and he’s carved out a nice place in the league.
He was drafted to be a rim runner, finisher, defender and rebounder and he’s the best guy in the draft at doing those things.

Just trade all our picks for overrated point guards from now on... that’s smarter than what we did.
We've spent 7 first round picks on PGs in the last 8 years and still don't have a long-term PG...
We've spent 2 other first round picks in the last 3 years on traditional center picks to backup Rudy.

This is HORRIFIC asset management.

Like @NUMBERICA said... if the Nuggets didn't gift us Mitchell and Gobert, this team would be the equivalent of the Knicks or the Kings...

So I just wanted to come back to a point that I think is very important:

We do not have the luxury of pissing away draft picks. And save for Donovan and Rudy - who we didn't even technically draft - that's all we've done for the past ten years. We would be the Kings if the Nuggets didn't **** those up.

This is also the first test of new ownership and it looks bad.
It's embarrassing at this point.

Bright side - I actually expect Udoka to be a solid backup big (maybe not immediately, but at some point).

Less bright side - we basically spent the #23 pick on someone, who if things go well for us/them, will be our 9th man due to he/Rudy never being playable together, that seems not great.

Burning a first rounder on a ****ing dinosaur to play 14 minutes a night is bad asset management. Period.

If they used the 38th pick on him it would be much less bad, but I'd still be scratching my head. Bigs that don't have soft skills can be found all over the place and would be happy for a minimum contract.

You should also be concerned that the Jazz are bad at the draft as a sign.

don't forget the 3 draft picks we spent on Korver to get him/get rid of him over a 6 month span, and the 2 draft picks we spent to get Clarkson who is now a UFA

He's 21, how long do we need to wait for him to become solid backup big? Maybe 3 years like we waited with Bradley and then give up another second to dump him...

Nah, I expect him to be ready to go in his 2nd year. Which is unfortunately not this year.

Tillman seems like it should've been the pick to me if we'd wanted a big.

He steps in right now. He played four years - he’s physically ready today. You simply don’t have to wait.

Jazz opening day game in about 1 month time. Over under 10.5 minutes for Azubuike? I think I'm taking the under...

The locking in on one guy or target and giving up too much in a trade for the thing you needed two seasons ago. Only addressing obvious needs when pending free agents want you to... botching extension negotiations because you can’t see the salary cap landscape... holding on to guys you drafted until you have to give up draft assets after wasting years of development and roster spots.

I just seriously can’t ****ing wait until either we overpay for a premium backup center or throw Udoka out there and realize a rookie is not a good solution to a current problem and we end up with Ed Davis as a backup.

Also everyone be prepared for the JC overpay. I’ll set the over under at 4/50.

Over. But you could throw out that over/under about anybody they might have drafted. Bradley would play over 10.5 minutes and Udoka is twice the player, in that role, Bradley is.
Also, I haven’t been on JF- what is the feeling here? Must be that the Jazz are definitely signing Rudy to the Supermax, right?

This was not the year to take a rookie expecting a contribution... no summer league and shortened preseason. In Quins sex machine offense he will look like a deer in headlights.

It was just so easy to get this right like go on auto pick and log out. But nah.

I’ll take the over because rookies get lots of time in blowouts.

The guy behind this channel puts together what are in my opinion some of the best video draft prospect breakdowns.

Dudes not just a dunker, but a legit post game/threat. The #'s are there for context.

How does he get those post ups without a time machine?

we are going to run the offense through the post....for a rookie?

This was the year to draft a four year guy who can step right in and be better than the guy he replaced. That’s exactly what the jazz did. Udoka should have been a lottery pick.
