Jazz select Udoka Azubuike with pick 27 & trade Tony Bradley + pick 38 to the Pistons

Udoka is going to learn from the best defensive player and roller in the NBA. The exciting thing to me is that Udoka has more lob threat potential with how high he can jump. The thing that limits Rudy is that he isnt great at exploding in traffic.

Udoka is much more modern than Bradley. Bradley was pretty much a finesse player that was below the rim with no mobility. There were semblances of mid-range game. He had to go to the basket in various ways because he would just get stuffed. There are no worries about how Udoka will get his. He will put pressure on the rim for the 2nd unit which was lacking outside of Rudy.

If Udoka is half the player of prime Deandre Jordan, that's great.
People saw Bradley and saw thanksgiving dinner.

People will look at Udoka and be somewhat intimidated. Guards might be excited to iso and shoot over him with stepbacks, but no one is going to treat him like a little kid which is what happened every game to Bradley.

Can’t pass, shoot, dribble, or move on the perimeter. He’s a poor mans Boban. He’s going to be as effective as about 10 players we could get on the open market at somewhere between the minimum and the BAE. We are assuming he will be ready now but he is likely to **** up the offense as hard or harder than Ed in his first year.

Also a budget Deandre Jordan gets played off the floor by round 2 of the playoffs. The move shows how our management can’t be flexible or innovative. We play the same way all the time... even though nba teams have proved they can beat that style in the playoffs.

Maybe Udoka can return the favor and teach Rudy what a post move is.

Itd be nice if Udoka could also develop a little 5-10 ft jumper.

Jazz got their version of Boban. The player that checks in and the opposing guy who is guarding says to himself "I have to guard this ****ing guy?".

I really thought dude was going to be like 23.

21 means he can develop a lot more, especially physically.

Biggest key will be the Jazz teaching him the art of the short roll. That will take some time probably.

Udoka getting down to 260 with 10% body fat per NBA Combine is pretty impressive. I wonder what he played at this season for Kansas. I would guess 270-280 range.

If this dude can get down to 255 and a bit more shredded, he might be able to get to a legit 41'' vert and not a fake one.

Ja Morant is a month older than Udoka. Kind of crazy when you think about it.

I hope Tony Bradley shows out for Detroit! He's not a big payday guy, hope he can at least get out there and get those oboards.

hgahahhahhaha I kinda almsot dont even wanna get into Utah selecting Udoka... I wouldnt have picked him that high, lemme say that.

At the same time there's no way im gonna sit here and kill that pick or even say its bad. It's plenty reasonable is how i really feel. I know ppl are more into extremist views but thats where im at on the Udoka pick...

I root for the kid bigtime... I posted about him a long time ago here..

I'll just tell this story about Udoka Azubuike, and its very true... He used to be extremely demonstrative to the opponents he was dunking on.

and it;d be like some matchup thats 6'6 and 150 lbs or standing next to udoka that's how they'd look...

one might call that type of behavior distasteful.. idk we'll see how it all plays out... he used to be all about that stuff tho..

also you all know that Udoka pulled a Pat Connaughton at the combine this year, right? he sandbagged his standing reach #'s to make his vertical look more explosive...

and it fooled plenty, givony was tweeting about udoka breaking the vert record for c's

Will also say this pick makes me less bullish on my opinion about moving on from Clarkson. If Udoka is really that dude on defense, the Jazz can return to being an elite defensive team which means I'm less worried about Clarkon's D.

It is kind of notable that Udoka is a 4 year senior who is only 21. He's only been playing basketball for 9 years, almost half of that at Kansas.
and he just barely turned 21 in september. played his entire senior season at age 20. it is absolutely notable that the Jazz are getting a guy with four years of college experience but is the same age as guys who came out after their sophomore season.
