The question I have about this is: if it was originally shot in 4:3, are they going to keep it that way, or are they actually going to cut off bits of the top and bottom to fit a wider ratio?

Hmm...

wide.
but not exactly cut of top bottom. gonna do it dynamically. also it was shot "4:3" but on the roiginal 35mm film there was some extra material on the left and right. so that might come into play.
i hope this one is succesfull, so the next logical step would be DS9. tng and ds9 look horrible on dvd. VOyager seems good on dvd
