BYU to the Big 12 discussion???

It's a neat story, without any substance to it what so ever. If you want to hear a good story about BYU's in-state loyalty, ask Utah State about how BYU completely screwed the Aggies out of a chance to join the MWC last year. Or about the time BYU magically decided that they were going to start wearing Aggie Blue.

You are a neat story, without any substance what so ever, but go ahead and try to deflect the truth. The fact is BYU did not leave the conference until Utah was gone already. Utah left the conference without much of a care of what it would do to the BYU rivalry or relationship. You should know that BYU and the Aggies had a deal in place where BYU would have all sports but football in the WAC with the Aggies. Then other schools that were part of the deal decided to bolt the WAC for the Mtn West when they offered. The Aggies decided not to accept the offer to go to the Mountain West (they should have in hindsight) because they were still trying to salvage the WAC deal, but it was too late. Even though your school has nothing to do with it, go ahead and blame BYU if it makes you feel better... but with all this talk of "intellectual honesty", if you had any you would know the deal was blown apart by the other schools more than BYU. For all I know it was the U that suggested the Mountain West invite those WAC schools. Who cares about BYU wearing "Aggie Blue"? Its a stinking color. Do all college teams wear different colors? Shouldn't the Army be ticked when the Utes wear those stupid camo type uni's? Geez, give me a break.

I've always tried to be respectful when discussing Utah/BYU. I'm not a BYU hater, I'm more of a live and let live guy. Apparently I've failed. Sorry Spazz.

I didn't realize that by expressing an opinion about BYU's situation, as a Utah fan, I was automatically thumbing my nose at their fans. Or that the street of disrespect only flows one way. I am a victim of my own ignorance.

You are just being snarky, but I'll bite.

I apologize for hurting your tender feelings. I didn't realize that by expressing an opinion about Utah fans, as a BYU fan, that I was automatically attacking you in a sensitive area. Did I claim disrespect went one way? I cannot argue with your ignorance comment, but that would be a good sig for some BYU fan to put up if they found you highly annoying.

BTW, who cares if there is a neener, neener attitude oozing out of your red skin? It's a rivalry. It does go both ways. Just don't cry about it whey I point it out.

Here's another one for you though. Ute fans claim Cougar fans have this "holier than thou", or I'm better than you attitude. Turnaround is fair play, but this "holier than thou" attitude Ute fans despise so much... is the attitude many Ute fans have now. I just find it interesting that something you hate so much is now part of you.

You ever hate something your parents did or said to you, and find yourself doing the same thing to someone else (your kids) later in life.

Weird

You should have kept reading. We established that I'm retarded. I forgive you.

Besides, as far as being snarky goes, those who live in glass houses...

Yes I am snarky, and it's fun to throw stones in glass houses. Much more fun that way. Don't you find broken glass more exciting than dented walls?

BYU hasn't been left out of anything unless it was by choice. They are independent by choice. They have not joined a BCS conference by choice. That's their call and if you're gonna cheer for BYU you gotta square away with that or else be stupid I guess.

My issue is the persistent assertion that Utah somehow whored itself by jumping to the first big conference that would take it.
I don't know about whoring themselves I think maybe you're getting defensive. I mean, they want money and prestige. Nothing wrong with that in the right contexts.

But there's no question Utah jumps to the first BCS conference that would take them and if you believe otherwise you're dumb. BYU would jump to the first BCS conference that gives in to their demands.

...But there's no question Utah jumps to the first BCS conference that would take them...

In my mind, it doesn't really matter whether they would or wouldn't. That wasn't even my point. But, it's moot anyway. Just in case you weren't aware, Utah had been pursuing a PAC invite for years. They ended up where they wanted to be, and it wasn't by accident. Whether or not they would have accepted an invite from any other conference is irrelevant. I understand that BYU has different interests that factor in (personally, I think the biggest issue is BYUtv) and so if they want to hold out, more power to them. Utah carries no such extra baggage, and was therefore able to mesh with the PAC 12. Done and done.

... and if you believe otherwise you're dumb.

You stay classy.

(personally, I think the biggest issue is BYUtv)
I think that's becoming more and more obvious. I personally think that's the reason they've never been invited into the Big 12. Like I said earlier, I don't think the Sunday play is that big of a deal.

When the WAC deal was falling to pieces, the MWC acted quickly and invited Utah State. BYU urged Utah State to decline at the time in an attempt to keep some sort of WAC deal together, only to turn around and jump to the WCC without too much concern for Utah State. Thus leaving the Aggies in the neitherworld of being in a collapsing WAC and on the outside looking in at the MWC.

Believe it or not, I blame Utah State on this one, but you still shouldn't be in here touting BYU's in-state "loyalty" because they have none. They left the MWC because their biggest in-state rival had just left for much greener pastures. It would have looked horrible had BYU not done something at that point. Utah State should have looked out for #1 and made the jump to the MWC. BYU asked them to wait for them, and then burned them without a second thought. Moral of the story: All of these schools should be looking out for #1 because if you're not, you're most likely going to get screwed by your "loyal" friends.

We can agree to disagree because you have the story tweaked. Whatever, I don't really care what you think on this anymore. I think you are trying to make yourself feel better because the U made a good decision for themselves in the face of loyalty. You don't have to try to knock other people down to make yourself feel better. Just accept what your program is and be happy with a good situation.

I have the story tweaked? Is that just because you say I do, or can you offer something beyond that? Word coming out of Utah State at the time was that they were furious about what went down with BYU. Obviously their anger at BYU is something that they're not going to go public with for a variety of reasons, but it certainly sounds like it they felt betrayed by the very school that you laud as loyal to it's in-state bretheren.

For the record, I've got no problem with how all of it went down. If Utah State was dumb enough to risk their own position in an effort to help BYU, that's their own stupidity, and I don't mean that as a shot at BYU. If it was any other school in the country that worked over USU, it's still the Aggies fault for not setting their best interest's as priority #1.

I understand. Sometimes that's all there is.

It's not even that big a deal. Don't know why Ute fans are so defensive about it. Whatever. See sig.

I agree, especially since Utah could've joined any conference ever they just didn't want to. CHECK OUT MY SUBSTANTIVE ARGUMENT.

Irrelevant to my post. Utah took the first offer it got. Nothing wrong with that and nothing to be defensive about.

Actually, if you want to bring up relevancy, your whole post was irrelevant because you completely missed my point. You probably just need to read a little more carefully. It's cool though. Nothing you needed to go flying off the handle about. But I forgive you. Frustration can be a tough master.

Peace be with you, conan.

I wonder if Utah would have gotten a Big 12 invite this year with TCU if they had missed out on the Pac last year.

TCU/Utah would have been 2 good adds for the conference and they would have came without the extra requests for their own TV channel and such. Obviously, Utah took the first offer presented to them by a big conference, but that's not to say it would have been their last/only offer.

No doubt. But given how this season is going, it's good they didn't wait. Strike while the iron is hot.
