NON-JAZZ NBA PLAYOFF thread

What? Kawhi and PG can keep up with Mitchell/Conley and are huge (not to mention Patrick Beverly as an option). Zubac matches up fine with Gobert, but Ibaka and/or Morris can erase Gobert (our defense) if they get their shooting going. And by being so switchable, they can break our offense.

Clippers are a nightmare matchup for us if they aren’t sleep-walking.
This is a pretty big if. Their offense is just 1-on-1 stuff dude. And IDK what you are seeing in Zubac. Dallas literally played him off the floor by trying to get him switched onto Luka.

Utah would do the same thing with Donovan or Conley IMO. I think Zubac would be a non-factor against Utah.

And Ibaka? He is hurt yet again, and he has been ineffective on the floor when he has played. Morris? Yeah, he has been awful in this series for the most part.

Kawhi and PG13 should worry the Jazz the most. But the rest of their roster? None of those guys scare you.

That's kinda weak though. Without Murray there and the Jazz beat them, it wouldn't feel the same. Even the nba fans and the nuggets fans would say the same thing. If Denver had Murray now, they would've been quite scary and would have a big edge over Phoenix.
Kinda like how we played them without Bogie last year?

Many of their guys scare me. They’ve got Batum who adds even more length to their lineup.

They’ve got Beverley, Jackson, and Rondo they can throw at Conley and Mitchell.

Other than the Nets (whose talent makes them a matchup nightmare for everyone), I don’t see a team we match up worse against.

I don’t think many of you are taking the Clippers as seriously as you should. The Clippers don’t have to outshoot us. They can lock us down, turn us over, and generate plenty of points in transition after squeezing the life out of our short guards and unathletic bogie. The Clippers are a huge threat. The Mavericks aren’t. We can probably even beat them without Conley honestly.

Both teams are very good teams which provide different problems for the Jazz. Regardless who we play it is going to be a tough series. I do not have a preference. I just want the Jazz to play to their capabilities and they should win. Clippers do not have a good history with us. We have proven we can beat them at home and in a series. Leonard scares me but if we can keep PG in check and the rest of the crew then Jazz should be able to win.

Mavs have Luka and they are not as deep as the Clippers but if Hardaway and Smith go off then it could be more difficult for the Jazz. I think I would rather play the Mavs if I had to decide simply because they lack depth. They are going to be tired coming into the series and so we could go up 2-0 before they can breathe. I love beating the Clippers because they are the more unlikeable team and it would be a smack in the face of the big market NBA to have both LA teams out of the playoffs.
Either way I am ready for the 2nd round to start.

Jackson and Beverly are not that big. Beverly is the guy I worry about the most because of his defense. Rondo is not the defender he was and his shooting is very inconsistent. Jackson was riding the bench for a while but got into some action and started playing like he did before he signed big contract. Offensively, he could be a difference maker. Defensively, he cannot guard either DM or Conley. Batum provides length but he has always been an underachiever. His stats are not earth-shattering and he is a shell of the player he was with Portland. I worry about Clippers 3pt shooting. They led the league in 3pt shooting and so that can negate our big advantage.

The Jazz provide matchup problems for the Clippers and that is why we have beaten them in the past. The difference may be which bench plays better. The Jazz need Joe to be Jingl'ng Joe and not invisible Joe. JC needs to be more consistent on his shooting. PG and Leonard can only guard one player. Jazz will have open shots and as long as they make them I think they will beat the Clippers in a tough series.

The Clippers have the talent to beat the jazz. Whether they put it together or not is their problem.

The Mavericks don’t have the talent to beat the Jazz. Regardless of chemistry, they just don’t have the talent to beat us. which is why id rather play the Mavs, they’re the lesser threat.

That is my take.

I think that a western finals matchup with the Nuggets would be pretty cool. A rematch from last year, except there is no Murray this time.
This would be very cool. We'd win it in 6, maybe even 5.

This is the right take. The Clippers are still one of the top-three talented teams in the NBA. That dosen't mean the Jazz can't win, tho. It just means that if they're playing up to their talent, they're going to be a tough team to beat.

The one good thing LAC seems to lack that Dallas doesn't is coaching. And because of that, we can likely exploit some things.

I keep thinking back to the 1998 WCF when the Lakers rolled into Salt Lake with everyone proclaiming them to be the better team. Maybe talent wise they were. But that team bought its own hype and completely collapsed in SLC as the more disciplined Jazz swept them.

That was both due to inexperience and poor coaching (Del Harris was never a great coach). The only difference is that LAC has experience (tho Shaq was pretty dang experienced that season, having as many Finals appearances as Stockton & Malone).

Regardless, the Jazz dominated that series despite struggling a bit more vs, say, the Spurs, who were so much better coached than the Lakers.

Agreed. If we get the Clips I think our odds of advancing are about 30%. If we get the Mavs, I will be disappointed if we don't advance. If we do get the Clips, the Suns got the better draw by finishing 2nd.

Good news is that though I agree that the clippers can guard us well, we can also guard them well.
I think we beat the clippers.

However I'm a fan of high scoring games and I think the Mavs are the worse team so of course I prefer the Mavs.

Not scared of the clippers though.

In fact, if we are healthy I feel confident that the jazz make the finals.

I think if we get the mavs then our chances of advancing are like 80%. If we get the clippers then our chances are like 70%.

The jazz are the best team in the NBA and the best home team in the NBA and have homecourt advantage and the #1 seed. That didn't happen by accident. The jazz are really really ****ing good.

The jazz have more all stars than both of those teams, a better coach, and more award winning players as well. Deeper, better chemistry, better net ranking, better margin of victory. Basically better everything.
