Jazz Offseason Plan

So I don't know how much this has been talked about, but I am getting jumpy about retooling this team. The debate over whether it's Donovan or Rudy's team is over (at least/especially if it's the case that there is a level of rift under the surface that's not going to fully heal and may flare up), and most of the team's offensive talent are dudes that are an annual threat to fall of a cliff and whose contract statuses are or will soon be nigh.

So what is the possibility of trading Rudy to the Cavs for the #3 pick (if Evan Mobley is there, and whatever stuff has to be done to make it work)? I know Gobert can't technically be traded until October, but I don't know if that's simply a formality or not. I think Mobley pans out and would become a perfect big as he develops (though he might have some rough times in the first season or two at his weight and if he doesn't have a perfect front court mate alongside him). The Cavs might do that because they are jumpy about fielding a respectable team again (which is enough to make the playoffs in that joke of a conference).

Would the Jazz do that? Should the Jazz do that? Would the Cavs consider it (again, assuming Mobley is there at #3)?
If we can find a way to do it, I’d keep the Mitchell, Gobert, Conley, O’Neale, Clarkson, and Ingles core and try one more year. I’d literally jettison the entire rest of the team (save Azubuike) and replace them with vets and new guys (draft pick/UFAs). I’d try to find a trade for Bogey that brings us back some perimeter defense.

Guys like Aminu, Batum, Harkless, etc. would be my targets. Any good college players in the 6’5 to 6’8 range that can defend would be my draft targets/UFAs.

I think we owe it to vets like Conley (if he wants to be here) Ingles, and Gobert to give it one more go with a retooled supporting cast with at least a couple dudes that can guard at least a chair on the perimeter.

If we fail again next year, it’s time to blow it up. I’d guess Mitchell will request a trade next offseasons if we don’t at least get to the conference finals next year.

Could a team just functionally jump that and wait to sign the paperwork? Maybe there isn't an easy to find answer there.
There have been October trades before. Sometimes, that's a good way to find a desperate team that struck out in free agency.

I'm staring right at Charlotte. If they don't get a good player in free agency or via a trade, I could see them making a play for Rudy if we make him available. I mean, why not for them? They have guys locked in on rookie deals for a few years. Rudy makes them a legit playoff team right away.

If we can't dump Favors and Doke looks solid in the off-season, then maybe pull the trigger.

Yeah, I didn't mean for my salty tone to take away from what appeared to be some real positives, I, again, am just not sure what question he's answering here. But there are some positives for sure, and would theoretically provide some abilities that the Jazz don't really have (though again, might be more of a luxury than a necessity, assuming the roster doesn't change, that is...).
Oh no worries, and I’m not this dudes cheerleader at all. I found out he existed like 4 hours ago.

I guess looking for the bright side if they are going to work him out and was pretty impressed by some high bball IQ stuff.

Now back to me also wanting only long, hyper athletic wings….

I honestly don't think Ingles would bring much back in a trade. He strikes me as a system guy, and I think other teams know he wouldn't play as well for them. Plus yeah, he's aging and didn't play well last year.
If finishing 2nd in 6th MOY voting is not playing well, then I'll take it!

Also, is there a team with caproom and a pick 10-20 that may be interested in trading it for Bojan? I’m enamored with Franz Wagner.

Based on the Tony Jones article this morning, the Jazz really want Conley back and are gonna make a hard push for Nic Batum.
And let the record show - if we overpay Batum, it's a move to appease/backup Rudy since Rudy and Batum are buddies and Batum can small ball center in place of Rudy.

We are going to be damn old if we give all our off-season money to Conley and Batum.

Well, my takeaway is that we are still trying to be damn old to win a title next year. Not saying I agree or disagree.

Other names mentioned in the article: Jeff Teague and Raul Neto. Looks like a “run it back” situation with some minor tuning.

I just disagree with the FO on how close we are to winning it all. I think we need more than a couple end of rotation guys that provide a bit of versatility. I think we need starter/initial rotation level changes around Conley/Mitchell/Gobert that significantly upgrade this team’s length and athleticism.

The whole offense got gummed up against length. Even bad length. Look at the Twolves games as a case in point.

GOBERT for 3rd pick as Mobley???
his body language and energy level raises red flags for some … His lack of bulk is the main cause for concern in terms of physical attributes Look at Rudy work has done, We're now win mode team.
We need veteran and wing depth not new young center.

I dont think we were close but I also dont think you blow up a number 1 seed. My vote is that you keep JC to keep the bench strong and you move Bogey and/or Favs to fill in another piece or two. I am sure I am in the minority but I always like Neto and would be glad to have him back as the number 3 PG.

I’m not saying you blow it up, but I at least think you swap out at least one starter and one rotation level guy.

I think you move Bogey and Favs.

I don't know. If we would have lost the last regular season game, we would have played the Lakers without AD, Nuggets without Murray and either the Clippers or Suns.

I think we could be in the finals right now. But then again, our inability to address the wing would have touched us in the conference finals or finals.

The Jazz really need to find ways to get longer/more athletic, as well as younger. We don’t want to lose Mike for nothing but I hope it’s like a 3 year contract with team control over the 3rd year or even a flat 2 year contract.
