He's tearing it up so far on Tomic's team, a team with a bunch of semi-big names (and I just saw that they hope to add Dwight Howard).

Someone please tell me again why we wouldn't want to give him a shot as 3rd PG, especially if Corbin decides that the offense will be run increasingly through SG.

For those who have seen him play (I haven't): will his defense be worse than Jimmer's? Stats show well enough that he's no playmaker, but is he an embarrassment with the ball in his hands? Will he be unable to get his shot off in the NBA?

JC is a decent defender - definitely better than Jimmy. He can get his shot off fine in any league but he did not have NBA ball handling skills and at 6'2" was not athletic or long enough to play the 2. If he has been playing the point in Euro leagues and has developed good ball handling, he is worth a look as a 3rd string PG. No one works harder than JC so I would not be surprised is his handles have gotten a lot better. As an Aggie, he was in a system and with players where he simply was not the ball handler.

The beta version of St. Jimmer.

Anyway, I don't hate the idea of him as a 3rd stringer. But I think I like the idea of Ronnie Price, Kyle Weaver, or maybe even Chris Quinn more.

But I think I like the idea of Ronnie Price...more.
Can I take back some of the positive rep I've given you over the past year?
I like pretty much anyone over Ronnie "Air" Price. 35%/29% last year says it all. Unless you give him pom poms and put him on the sidelines with the Jazz dancers, the man has no business being on the court. He's an undersized SG who can't even shoot, let alone distribute the ball. If Harris or Watson gets hurt and Price has to play extended minutes, just count it as a sure loss. Jazz can do a whole lot better.

I love Price. His effort and energy is good for the team. His shooting, shot selection and ball handling are not good. Hopefully he has worked on all the negatives over the off season.

I like his energy and effort too. But it's nowhere near enough to make up for his shooting, shot selection, and ball handling. I'm gonna have to go with glasseater on this one, give him some pom poms and let him put that energy to good use!

Price was statistically one of the worst players in the NBA last season.

I'd take a D-League point guard over Price.

I like Price as a third string. When has to play extended minutes he blows, but he provides some good defense in shorts minutes.

As a 3rd string/practice player? There is a specific type of player that can do a good job in that role, Price is one of the best IMO.

If you're asking more of him then you're in trouble.

That's part of what being an out-of-rotation/practice player is. Not every player is stoked to be that and still give 100% no matter what AND be a great teammate. AND be a great athlete.

ronnie price stats among all guards last season:

Overall Win Shares: -0.7 (ranking 161st worst of 162 guards)
Winshares per 48mins: -0.048 (153rd worst of 162)
FG%: 35.2% (150th of 162)
3Pt%: 29.0% (121st of 162)
Asst/TO ratio = 1.01 (nothing showing the rank among guards... but a pg with a a/to ratio of 1... terrible)
PER: 5.5 (154th worst of 162)

its pretty safe to say almost anybody could and probably would be better for the jazz than price.
